neil smith
i think its the case with most Section 2 shotguns, stops the mag tube being replaced with an extended tube. Mossberg & Benelli tubes are screwed into the receivers & although usually very tight they can be replaced if damaged quite easily, not so with the 870 because the tube is welded into the receiver. I have known quite a few that have had sticking followers, its usually caused by one of two things, either the tube has a slight dent or is misshapen from bump or more commonly by a shallow crimp which traps the cheap thin steel or plastic followers. If its the crimp the easiest solution is to fit the plastic magazine restrict that comes with these guns, there are usually loads of them available on the well know auction site. Once fitted it should stop the follower from getting in contact with the crimp. N
andy198712
Yh I believe there silvered in after a little research. Pretty sure its the crimp and old metal follower, never knew about those inserts, I'll have a look thanks!

Danoi99
My Wife has just struck a deal with me: If I can loose 5kg in 5 weeks........I can go and buy a pump action !!!! That'll get me down to 90kg again !!! We are saving for a house so I think the Winchester SXP might be on the cards !! What else could I lay my hands on for the same money? The SXP looks ok to me, although I have heard mention of it having a small LOP..........are they supplied with any shims? or will it need a thicker pad to lengthen it all up ? p.s She said I can get the Wingmaster if I can get a proper 6 pack..........................................SXP it is then !!! theshootist
5 weeks to lose more than two stone? That's a big ask!! However, she is offering concrete incentives here.. go for it!!!

Sws
Hi all, New to PW, but been reading thorough for the last few months picking up some good tips! Thought I'd get involved. This looked like the right place to start! I've been shooting air rifles since a kid and recently got my sgc. After weeks of debating over 870 or 500, I just brought my first shotgun.... Benelli supernova - Mainly for rough shooting. Been out shooting clays a few times and get the odd looks as expected! New to this so may sound stupid question but since buying been reading bits about bad barrel rust on supernova?? Anyone experienced this? Any good prevention? Cheers guys
Wharf Rat
Benellis are a quality piece of kit. Many wildfowlers I know swear by them, and if they will put up with salty foreshores and sand, they will be more than good enough for rough shooting. Just clean the barrel with Hoppes or Parker Hale 009, and use an oily rag on the metal parts and you wll be fine. If it gets wet, give it a good clean with GT85 (not WD40), then use a light 3 in 1 type oil and do not put it in the cabinet damp. Wait until it has time to air. If you are a bit paranoid, oil the inside and outside of the barrel from the breech end and store muzzle down. This is the same for any gun. My 870 Express is like new since 1992 with the above treatment, and that is much more prone to rust than the Supernova. You have a fantastic gun. If you get better at shotgun shooting and realise it doesn't fit you that well, get the Supernova fitted by a gunsmith and keep it. You cannot buy as reliable an auto for the same money, or as well made an O/U or SxS. Welcome to pump club !
Malik
Took a friend to shoot a few clays this week. He shot the Pump and fell in love, He only shot 25 sporting with it Now he's asking when I'm going back, so he can try again and double check he loves the sport I think if all goes well, he'll be joining the pump club very soon! Oh and the local clay ground

Been reading some people say use wd40 other say defo not, I'll see if I can find some gt 85. Changed the shims in stock when I got it and seems to fit good. I went to a pay n shoot clay place by myself last week, only shot on one stand, missed the first 5 or 6 getting my eye in, then only missed 4 or 5 of the 50 I shot. Did realise after I had a 1/4 choke in so that was probably making it easier? My plan was to get an o/u too, but hooked on the pumps! Would love a old wingmaster but bloody hard to find! Thanks for the info!

Sws
I use legia oil for all my gun cleaning and maintenance, seems to do the trick nicely. Inside and out!? Sorry fairly new to this! thepasty
yup dont know if that good or bad but it works for me. I have a number of rags, first its well oiled but dirty for the first wipe over, send is well oiled but reasonably clean and the third only has oil it wipes off the gun in the final wipe over. I clean the barrel with rods etc then put the middle rag through to littley oil... shes good to go then.
thepasty
its browning oil I think but any good gun oil from your local RFD will be fine.

kiffy
it is nice, not perfect by a long way as im not experienced at stock renorvations but as im sure anyone with an express knows remingtons finish isnt brilliant, mine had so much dust in the finish before i stripped it... and now its much better, it has some but its had 5 coats of stain and 15 coats of oil and being knocked back to a satin finish

How much can I pick one of these up for new in the U.K ? Anyone know where the cheapest deal is at the moment? Is it much better than the 870? How does the Mossberg500 compare? So many questions!!!! ChAoS
Neil, Wood is only good for keeping you warmYou may be interested to know that I've acquired another Ithaca - but I've strayed unto the Dark Side and bought my first *semi-auto*. (Oh, *no*...) That's the Good News. The Bad News is that I've managed to break it without even firing it. (This model has a *known* design flaw and, thus, breaking it wasn't much of a challenge for Captain Chaos.) And, oh yeah, it has *wood*. I dont own a gun with wood on it, so last milleniumI don't own a gun *without* wood. I did, once, fit a Choate stock to my S.1 M37, but I didn't like it and so went back to the repaired (read "bodged glue job") original. Regards, Mark.
