I have a Ithaca DS Police, has the parkarised finish.

Nice gun. I'm especially impressed with the "tightness" of the rear-sight's dove tail. Mine's very loose which is why the darned thing *moves* when I hold the gun there or remove the barrel. (However, that's the least of my problems on that gun...)

What I *really* wanted to say was that you've a part missing, I think. The front of that rear-sight should have a stepped ramp under it to allow elevation of the sight. Just sayin', like... :) (I'm just jealous, really - *all* M37s should belong to *me*.)

Regards,

Mark.

Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone has an 870 Wingmaster barrel for sale? or knows of someone with one?

Basically what I'm after is a Wingmaster barrel that is 28" or 26" long and can take the 3" cartridges, as my 870 has the magnum receiver. I currently have a 30" barrel on, with a fixed full choke, and I find that it feels just too long. I would happily swap if someone wanted the longer barrel  or part exchange my barrel and some cash!

I do actually have a 28" 870 wingmaster barrel as well but its not the one that can take 3" cartridges, and it may be my ocd kicking in, but having 'Magnum' on the receiver and a barrel that can only take 2 3/4" drives me mad! so in theory I could swap someone 2 barrels for their 1 if needed?

I've enquired at Teague how much it would cost to get it cut down a few inches and then threaded for their chokes, and it's looking around the £300 mark, which is more than I paid for the gun itself, however finding a shorter barrel, especially one for the magnum receiver, is proving very difficult. So I might just have to pay up and get it done.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Wow, cool Topic!

My Dad used to call them 'Shucking Guns'

I have a Ithaca DS Police, has the parkarised finish.

I use, and get on well with it erm, down a clay club, it was cylinder as standard.

I had it multichoked with Briley chokes, it ALWAYS loads, I can hold it upside down and shake the hell out

of it and at the same time pull the slide forwards, has NEVER failed to load, any size of shell, oops, someone is going to start a Ithaca vs

Remmy 870 fight soon !!!

How much did it cost to get it multi-choked if you don't mind me asking?

Possibly, both brands have their ardent supporters, however the PSG pump action division world champion comes from Finland, his name is Roger Karp & he uses one of the guns mentioned, ill let you try & guess which one it is. :)

The World Team Champions are from Italy & they use a different brand altogether. :whistling:

Well at least they arent going to try and say either are better than the Mossberg platforms, so thats left them fighting for 3rd and fouth ranking after the Benelli in at number 2.

Jeeez !! I wrote on a thread titled " Cheap Remingtons" I asked the question - Is £650 a good price for a new Wingmaster, as I have been offered one !!!

I seem to be taking a bit of flak on this subject...............wish I had asked the question on Pump Club instead of posting a new thread !!

What say you lot ? £650 for a brand new Wingmaster a good deal or not ?? of course I will have to decide for myself when the time comes to hand over the dosh, but I am just asking you seasoned pumpers for your opinion.

I hope that this simple question doesn't upset any of you !!!

Thanks

ps. on reflection i may have deserved some flak........things not going well at the moment..........i was a bit tetchy to say the least !!!

Hi Andy

From Gosport there are two good choices, first is Christchurch gun club, they hold what they call "action shotgun" shoots (PSG to the rest of us) on the 2nd Saturday of every month, I have not been personally but I know some of their members, keep an eye out for a chap called Iain Guy, he shoots there & is one of the top pump shooters in the uk.

http://www.christchurchgunclub.org/html/cgc_action.htm

Your second option is Romsey Shooting Club. http://www.romseyshootingclub.co.uk/

Which is a short trip down the M27 & then up the M3.

Not far from where the M3 joins the A303 they have a brilliant PSG ground Nr Popham, these guys really know their stuff & hold two rounds per year of the four4islands PSG series, the next one is on the 22nd of this month, drop them a line, im sure they wouldnt mind if you wanted to check it out on the day.

Good luck.

Thanks very much! I'll enquire and see what I can do :)

If you have the cash & want brand new then yeah why not. It's not too bad, you would be looking at nearly £600 for a brand new Mossberg 590 or something.

However if it was my money I would just spend £450 and save the money and get used. They are bullet proof and spares are easily available. Plus a used one will look used and for me has a little more character.

So I bought a new gun today. However I don't officially own it or have it in my possession yet. I got a friend to pick up for me.

What is it:

1984 Browning BPS - 24" barrel, no rib, brass bead, fixed 1/4 choke

The wood & bluing seems to be in good nick :)

Looking forward to get my hands on it!

Obviously it's very very similar to my Ithaca M37 that I already own, so will be interesting to see which I prefere. My mate summed it up as being nicer & better to shoot. In regards comes up to the shoulder better, longer LOP, 1/4 choke helps over the cylinder bore in the ithaca. Plus it having a bead sight rather than rifle sights makes things easier. That said it doesn't have slam fire and generally isn't as cool.

This is the first BPS I have seen with the corn cob slide bar and without a rib. Much like the ithaca I have always wanted one, so am pleased to get my hands on one eventually.

Funny, that's almost exactly what my sensible portion of my brain has been saying all along...............thanks very much for you advice mate.

To be honest, the only reason I was considering new was due to this Edgar Bros situation. I got my local dealer to give them a ring to see what was available gun wise, he phoned me back and said that they had a Wingmaster going for sale on a C3 concession rate ( whatevr the hell that means ?) The dealer said it may be marked or something? I got him to call them, and they said that it's just been un-boxed.....put together and handled a bit ( not fired ) it has no marks on it......and is basically........a brand spanking new gun...........I could have it for £650 !!!! But I had to move quick............that's why I was asking advice.

I don't know if this dealer is taking the you know what, but he seems like a good sort !!

I mat still decide not to buy it..........the wife aint too overjoyed with the idea anyway !! Seeing as a bought a lovely side by side last week !!!! hee hee

thanks again

Now that's very nice. Congratulations. I think that is the home defence model with the different slide and longer tube. Is it on fac?
