M ROBSON
I was out for a good drive round yesterday an I don't think I've ever seen the pigeons in my area feeding on such a wide variety of fields. At the moment I've seen good numbers on the following, Barley stubble, Wheat stubble, Oat stubble, Bean stubble, Rape, Clover, Calibri, Old Potatoe fields, Old Cabbage fields, Stubble Turnips, Kale, And there just the ones I've seen them on round here!! fortune
The last few days there have been up to about 3>4 hundred feeding on a field of winter wheat. probably finding either some new weed shoots growing through or some thing. the birds are only thirty to fifty yards away from a main road with no hedge. sometimes when a lorry rattles past they take off and do a circuit of the field, land and carry on. quite a few in the hedges on ivy. A couple of weeks ago there were a load on a bit of maize stubble. The trouble is that they are there until you go to shoot and then they're off somewhere else. A bit like large areas of rape. motty
I have seen thousands on the maize just lately and plenty still on rape. Today i've seen a lot on a few pieces of beet top, one of which i should be shooting on tomorrow.
