gibspoon
Hello folks, any advice on this would be appreciated. I need to get rid of my 2003 Grand, much as I love it. The fuel bills are just too much. Its a 2.7 diesel, so its never going to be great, but maybe its age/mileage is taking its toll. I'm looking for something that will tow horses, go offroad when I need to, carry a good load, be less complicated (the Jeep has electric EVERYTHING) and be a bit more reasonable on fuel. I don't mind agricultural. I've fried my head looking on the usual trader websites. Budget would be about £4000. Any suggestions? Cheers Gibspoon

Fisheruk
Rodeo Denver I reckon. If you can stretch to a newer Isuzu D-max you could get 34+ towing up to 3T. Edited February 8, 2013 by Fisheruk
al4x
The horses are your main issue along with the budget, it means you need a sizeable 4x4 and they generally aren't great on fuel. At that budget it keeps you out of the more modern engines that are a little more efficient, options are the dreaded disco or a shogun sport or most of the pickups if they float your boat. Most will be 30mpg at best, only other option is to keep your current vehicle just for shooting and towing and get a small diesel for day to day
four-wheel-drive
It all depends what you use it for apart from towing the horse box also how fare do you take the box if it quite a way then you will need something with a bit of power in it but if its not that fare you could get by with something not so big. P~MX
my Dad just bought a 2010 Jeep Compass 2.0 tdi and it's a great drivin yoke, it's 2 wheel drive that's electronically controlled to switch to 4x4 if in trouble it can also be set to permanent 4x4, loads of room, great spec, heated leather & about 38/40 mpg knockin about. figgy
Don't get a pickup to tow horses with unless your going to load the load bed right up otherwise the horse box will drag back of pickup about as they are light on the back. Farmers use water containers to add weight to pickup when towing animal trailers. Figgy
