Vince Green
Vince, did you not notice the Polish women? Yum Two types. Yummy blondes, high heels and tight jeans but turn into little fat motherly types with moustashes somewhere around 40. Great personalities though, the men live in fear of them generally. They rule the roost
RED BEARD
Well if it were me quoting, i'd suggest 2-3 days working by myself for 170 18's laid up on motar, buttjointed would cost you around £600 if i were to supply the slabs or about £220 if it were labour only, Makes me laugh really the prices some people charge, I learn't this from working at a concrete products yard from 16 making slabs, posts, kickboards, gravestones, ornaments, birdbaths, blocks, ballustrading, boxes, flower pots, etc etc But we made em the old fashion way, by hand with a mixer and vibe table, The old boy down there made me work bloody hard, no noncense type of guy, He taught me everything and i still get my slabs from there to this day at very low prices, I don't charge huge amounts for labour just enough to keep me going and cover my costs in blades, fuel etc To be fair it keeps me going and i make plenty and i'm always in work, So why take on pols etc when you could support people like me who work bloody hard for what they get, Not the cowboy type who gets half dozen chaps in who are clueless but work for pennies so he can get the job done and make huge profits, £220 for three days work before tax, theres no wonder you've always got plenty of work. DSPUK
To clarify - I have the slab's all ready to hand - it will be on wet mix and 1/2" gap between slab's then mortar gun the gap - I can get sand and cement delivered which is a very small part of the cost. - I can even lend them a cement mixer and supply a shovel and trowel but they can bring their own bloody tea at that price. Not many Poles around here so no cheap labour. - Thought about going down local dole office and asking if anyone want's a foreigner. - Dave
paul2012
156 quid after tax, can't argue really 3 of them in a week and you get plenty in your pocket, i rather that than charging 900 before tax labour and then not having work for the next month! Times are hard, prices need to reflect that

unapalomablanca
Undercutting the Poles. What a star. Solidarity is massively lacking in the provision of manual labour. Ever heard of someone in the professions undercutting each other. Of course not, one minimum HOURLY price(which is massive) and everyone adheres to it, and they dont end up talking to dom. RED BEARD
are they uniform type slabs or do they have irregular edges?
paul2012
yes but if it takes you 2 to 3 days to earn £156 you need to be working 8 days a week. Put simply i'm not making 900 per week, i don't want to either, i make enough to live happily, pay my bills, eat, shoot and put some back in reserve, I'm not the type of person that wants loads just enough, and trust me i've got enough work to keep me going 6 days a week for the next 6 weeks are they uniform type slabs or do they have irregular edges? You mean are they riven or rock riven
digger
Mortar gun? not really a good way of jointing between slabs. A JML shopping channel tool
lumpy
Two blokes 3 days = £1100 thats £183 each per day. I can get Poles to do that for £70 a day and they will do a brilliant job and I doubt it would take them three days. I can get Indians to do it for £40 a day but they would be illegals. Never the less they will do a good job. No wonder nobody wants to employ British workers any more. I was watching two so called builders working on an extension last week. Turned up about 9.30 did a couple of hours work. Sat in the van for two hours reading the paper then did a bit more. Started clearing up about 3.30 and were gone just after 4. If I were employing them I would have paid them off after the first day and told them not to come back. Polish blokes will graft all day from 8.30 to five and you give them a case of beer to take home on top of their wages they are delighted. Such a difference, always nice blokes too, none of the attitude and arrogance you get with British slobs sorry workers! If either of the above turned up on one of my jobs them and the 2 bob cowboy outfit that sent them would be up the road in a heartbeat ! shootnfish
A 1/4 ton of sand to lay 170 slabs that's only about 3 decent size barrows of sand ,10/12 bags of cement more cement than sand one hell of a strong very thin bed to lay that amount of slabs.
