My Mum who is 75 has been selected to do Jury service, she gets worked up just trying to fill forms out these days so how on earth is she going to cope with this, she does not even drive and has not been on public transport on her own for a good few years. She is not under the doctor for any illness or any thing mainly because it is all most impossible to get her to go, she comes from a, it will heal its self generation, can i just call them and explain or is there shed loads of forms for me to fill in.

Thanks

Chris

Jury duty is very important to the Brittish legal system why doesn't she write a letter explaining about the forms and hassle of transport etc They may excuse her...

You can normally claim for:
  • travel
  • lunch and refreshments
  • loss of earnings and other expenses - eg employing a child-minder or carer (outside your usual care arrangements)

Financial support and benefits (like Jobseeker’s Allowance) are unaffected for the first 8 weeks while on jury service.

There’s a maximum daily amount you can claim each day for loss of earnings and other expenses.

Questions about jury service

The Jury Central Summoning Bureau can:

  • give advice about your summons or jury service
  • arrange a visit to the court for you - eg if you’re disabled and want to see the facilities

Jury Central Summoning Bureau

jurysummoning@hmcts.gsi.gov.uk

0845 803 8003

Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm

Friday 9am to 3pm

Simple enough to ring... perhaps better if she rings while you are there.....

Seems you can be excused over 71 if you dont wish to take part in the justice process

The Other Half has done it twice and both times was paid by as normal by work. Willpoon you must work in a very odd capacity if you are off work for 2 weeks and 6 people have nothing to do imagine what would happen if you went on holiday, or were ill, i mean break a leg, bad back etc and were off for 6+ weeks the whole firm would collapse.......

If you were ever on trial who would you want on your Jury 12 OAPs? 12 Jobseekers (who have been seeking jobs for 10+ years), 12 Stay at home mothers?
