Archie-fox
Well it's finally happend, called into a meeting yesterday to be told my site that I work on is going to be moved to Cambridge in 2016 so I can re-locate or be made redundant in 3 years time or stay on if they can get a new science company on board...total shock, never saw that coming...but I've at least got 3-5 years to sort out what I'm going to do...it could have been worse could have been given 1 months notice....feel let down by the bosses but at least the government stepped in to stop a total site closure.. 550 made totally redundant, 1600 can re-locate , 700 support staff can remain on site...lets hope I can stay.... Mikaveli
Fair play to the company for giving you so much notice. When my old company decided to outsource our department, they'd known about it for years - but only gave us the statutory minimum one month 'consultation period' as notice. I'd have had some respect for them if they'd have said "Hey, this is our three year plan".
keg
They sound to have been decent about it. I was just called in. I think if you have not been through redundancy in the last few years you are in the minority. What do you do if you don't mind me asking Archie? Your rite about the 3 year plan, it could have been much worse...but the bosses told us last year they would invest in the site...so we do feel a little let down, but 3 years to sort things so got to be thankfull for that... Full Pelt
That sounds rough, althoufg there are worse places than Cambridge to live (like Doncaster ). Hardest part is starting from scratch with the shooting and social life better to stay put and find something, best of luck

Diceman
Bad news for Macc and Bolly, my old stomping grounds. What bits of AZ are staying and what is going?
WGD
Bad news fella but it could have been much worse in terms of the notice you have been given and the package you may get. Use the time wisely and have a plan for three years time, you will survive. My previous development business didn't go bust, just ceased to exist when funding for any spec projects dried up. Had to start my own business again at the bottom but getting through it now and actually quite enjoying life again.

What bits of AZ are staying and what is going? macc seems to be ok, its alderley park thats going to suffer..the whole of resarch and development is said to be going by 2016 and thats the main part of alderley park... Rich. Archie. Why the hell are they moving from such a beautiful site in Cheshire?..With easy access to motorways ...... Overheads must be a lot more in Cambridge surely. OK read a bit more about it today, Macc seems to be gaining some of the Alderley Park folks so I suppose good news for them, not so long ago that site was for the chop as well IIRC, now OK till 2017...no chance of a move there for you? Used to drive past AP every Sunday morning on the way to the sailing club when I was a lad, if it was a nice day there was always a crowd of animal rights nutters causing trouble outside the gates, we always gave them a cheery toot and some polite words of encouragement
The Ghost
Nowt wrong with Cambridgeshire, loads of shooting for you & permissions would not be as big a problem to get as you may think. I moved from Cumbria and the shooting is the best I have ever seen, get down here and have a look at least. Let me know if I can help in any way.....we gave two permissions to a shooter who moved here from Leeds....so anything is possible?
