It wasn't meant to be unsympathetic, merely a reference to a common past time to which he has eluded in the past to been an active participant (as have most of us I'm sure).

better than the dole tho and making money for working and not nothing

Was out of work once for 6 weeks in 40 years and never had a penny from the dole.. i retired when i was 55 that was 10 years ago

never had a penny from this country except the last 2 years when my pension kicked in and i paid plenty of tax in 40 years so have put my fair share in to the pot..

You have read it wrong i did plenty of graft mate and never sat on my **** . When i said i would not get out of bed for that i meant i would be looking for a job that paid decent money.

I know its more difficult now with jobs im pension age now 66 but there were plenty of jobs around when i was younger.. I paid my fair share into this country i was only out of work for 6 weeks in 40 years so you can take that comment and stick it where the sun doesn't shine :D

what you tell the taxman and what you "actually" earm may be different things?

farmer friend of mine pays himself minimum wage, but still drives a new Rangrover.

Unless he is paying himself in dividends (which the taxman will know about) then he is asking for trouble

Scrap that. Will be a company vehicle so is able to claim VAT and offset profit and leave money in the business

I cant see where in my post I have accused you personally of anything , I merely said its a good job not every one has the same attitude towards work because if they had then the country would grind to a halt .

You may not have been happy to work in a low paid job , but there are plenty that have no choice for one reason or another.

At least you earn it mate

Marty, are you saying that the OP doesn't earn his 70k?

In answer to another post, It's quite legal to pay yourself a small salary then a large dividend at the end of the year.
