motty
I decided i would have three days at the pigeons as i will be working next weekend. I started by taking a friend ( a beginner) out again. I drove round for far too long looking at fields - mostly freshly drilled - before setting up on a field of beans. I've had a lot of success there before so it seemed a good place to try. We shot 7 pigeons and a crow in 90 minutes before i decided this wasn't the place to be. I drove to a rape field a few miles down the road. We set up again. We did better this time. My mate managed to get a couple of birds in the final bag of 22 pigeons from this field. They decoyed quite well and my mate was pleased enough. Yesterday i went for a quick drive around and chose the field i would be shooting today. More on that later. I then went to a field of beans that was being drilled yesterday. The pigeons were interested, but the field was being rolled. I started getting set up while the worker finished. I'd shot 6 pigeons before the sprayer turned up. I had to move my gear twice before he disappeared. I shot a disappointing 10. Now, today i expected a good bag. I have shot many big bags on the field i chose to shoot today. Several hundred pigeons were tucking in when i looked yesterday afternoon. I invited a mate to share the day. The field had been drilled with barley. We arrived just before 8am and saw a lot of pigeons feeding - many more than expected. We got set up with a magnet, flocked shells (no sticks) and a few fuds. A floater was also added. It was quite a quiet start, but a few birds kept us busy. As the day wore on, more pigeons came and they decoyed very well at times. I was getting used to using my xtrema again, as my mate borrowed my silver pigeon 4. Dead birds were added to the pattern throughout the day. We both shot pretty well, both shot some rangey birds and several left and rights. By about 1.30pm we had made the 100 mark, but we wanted to get to 150. We carried on and eventually surpassed that. In the end we finished with 163 pigeons and 5 rooks. A great day. . Edited April 8, 2013 by motty

ayano3
That's a good bag mate. I see lots of drilling on Sunday as I took my daughter back to Norwich uni and thought how good it would be to shoot the area due to the soil and woodlands. Good shooting. Traffic was a bit slow for a while. Lovely job Motty , what net is that on the outside of your hide? It's a stealth net, i think it's a harvest/stubble one. I used 3 stealth nets and another old piece of net to build the hide. Edited April 9, 2013 by motty
