A lucky afternoon.

I only booked in to work half a day today. With all of the drillings about I thought that I might find a few to shoot.

Work was finished by midday and I started looking. Just as on last Saturday the usual places were devoid of birds and only a fortunate detour back home after I had given up looking saw me find a flight line into spring barley. Texts to and from the farmer gave me the OK and I flew back home for the gun, dogs and decoys. Chosing a position was the easy part - right off the end of a wood, but interestingly the birds did not decoy well but 'dive bombed' the decoys before heading up into the tall poplars behind me. I found these birds difficult (when do I ever find shooting pigeons easy?) and I missed a lot. Those that did decoy were straightforward.

I picked 42 but I should have had a lot more. If I shoot this badly again I will pack in pigeon shooting altogether (only kidding).

**** As a postscript and without getting too soppy about it I do spare thoughts for those pigeon shooters who are as keen as mustard but who have not had the chance to get any decent shooting this year. I hope that everyone gets some good shooting soon.
