WGD
Out with the pup this afternoon. Not easy with phone in one hand trying to "steer" the dog but here's a few hunting clips and a couple of retrieving exercises.Pup is approaching 8 months. WGD
Thanks all. Still needs work on his hunting Terry, pattern was poor as my body language was totally different trying to film him. And he hasn't seen game yet.
ollie
I thought my 8 month old cocker was coming on well, your spaniel puts it to shame. I'm nearly dizzy watching the videos with the speed of him
Cosd
Looks like you're doing a grand job there WGD. Fine looking pup too. If your were to grade him against other dogs would you say he's advanced, about right or behind where he should be at his age? I'm asking because I have no idea, to me it looks fantastic for an eight month pup. Cos
WGD
Cos, thanks. TBH I don't really judge whether pups are advanced or not for their age, it is more down to the training time put in (or not if the pup is not mature enough to take the lessons on board) and the nature of the dog. I am pleased enough with the pup, but he is just getting the basics drummed in. At the moment he won't go out on a blind, won't stop on the whistle whilst hunting for a mark, won't jump etc etc but I haven't tried any of that, so he does what he has been taught relatively well. He's a quick learner, but just because he picks things up quick doesn't mean he knows it properly so repetition of the basics, varied, but on a daily bass should stand us in good stead. I saw a clip on FB the other day of a 7 month cocker bitch picking cold game over a jump so that particular dog has moved on quicker.
