fenntay
Does any one use these ear protectors if so how do you rate them , Cheers
BSA-airgunner
I would rate them at 8/10.....I bought theses had to go twice for the moulds to be done ... they do work perfectly and to be honest I do forget there in . Turn the volume up and I can here conversation from a fair distance but they do pick up all the noise at higher levels ..more comfort than cans they play a tune when you turn them on and need when the batteries are getting low I get 8 hrs approximately per pair of batteries..and mine came with the passive set included ..OK the cost is high but the work that goes into them makes it worth while....true they don't rearly need a aluminium presentation box and a baseball cap and a sew on badge ...the cost is the only reason I would not rate theses at 10 / 10... retromlc
10/10 can't fault them at all, very comfortable and comfortably reduce the noise, expensive but if you can afford them then it's a yes
welshwarrior
10/10 from me audio is as good as hearing aides and they are more comfortable. I where mine nearly all day every day.
aris
Why did you ave to have your moulds done twice?
BSA-airgunner
The first set the chap done the mould to shallow so not enough room for the electronic inserts
jimmyb79
I had to have my moulds done three times and kept going back for adjustments to be made. After all that, they are fantastic. I have a pair of MSA sordins too, but these are my ear protection of choice now that they fit!

aris
I have a pair of the CENS passives - but i'm not 100% sure they are sitting properly. I think I have odd shaped ears as it is - for instance those ear-bud type headphones never sit in my ears properly B) I had to have my moulds done three times and kept going back for adjustments to be made. The first pair I had we're too small and didn't seal the ear properly. Shooting with them in has caused me permanent tinnitus! The second pair they just made bigger and although sealed properly were really uncomfortable as they were putting pressure on the inside of the ear. The third time, they remoulded and had me in at the factory to make the necessary adjustments until they fitted and I was happy. They're absolutely perfect now and I'm glad I persevered. I should mention that I bought mine from Puretone direct and I'm not convinced the person who took my first lot of impressions knew what she was doing. The pair that fit were moulded by the MD of the company who clearly knew a it more! Edited April 23, 2013 by jimmyb79

SirDread
I recently bought Cens proflex 2 + (Deeper battery well). I too had to have my impressions done twice but I had them done by an audiotologist and the fit is perfect. They are comfortable enough to wear all day long and to be honest so are my passive ones I had before , also made by puretone. They are great for holding a conversation so instructors and the like I am sure they are bang on. Mine are the 2 model so I get 2 setups one for clay bashing one for game, the difference you can read about on the website but in reality its not huge. You get plenty of batteries with them and cleaning kit etc. The only issue I have with mine is the wind. When its very windy I have to turn them off or right down as the defenders enhance it. No biggy but it kind of eliminates the point in having them for me. Do I think they are worth the money ? Well I got mine at the gun show so I did save quite a bit and got a better model than I planned for less money. They are superb at reducing the gun noise without a doubt and anything that protects your hearing is worth the money, but you can still hear folk chattering behind you when your on a stand. So for me if I am honest on reflection I could have happily stayed passive and blocked out everything while I am on the stand trying to concentrate and just shouted in conversation like everyone else when off it. Comfort 10/

If you can offer any tips, that would help. Thanks.
Dominicrobed
10/10 had them over a year. I'm lucky to live about an hours drive from the main office so went and had my moulds done there. Only thing now my wife wants a pair lol

What I noticed was that by opening and closing my mouth fully - and also wiggling my ears, if you can do that...- was that the plugs didn't stay sealed and that I could hear everything going on outside. Also, if you pull on the plug gently on the module and it unseals itself, it probably isn't right.

I too bought from puretone directly, but they gave me a voucher to go to a local audiologist. So after you had them all done again, if you wiggle your ears, or speak, they stay in place? Do you know what modifications they did to make them fit better?
jimmyb79
I can't shift the new pair no matter what movement I make now. I know that they extended the part that goes into the ear quite a bit and I think they generally made them bigger all round. I can't see where you are (using my phone) but if you speak to Puretone and tell them you're concerned they're usually very helpful in getting them sorted out. retromlc
i find mine fit very well,if i don't use the lube provided then when you do things like wiggle your ears around, which TBH isn't something you would normally do the you will pull your ears natural profile out of shape therefore letting a gap occour, but with the lube which seals dry plugs to dry ears creates a perfect seal. BRAD1927
I have the proflex hunters and I have had no problems at all. The key is getting the correct moulding and making sure they are fitted in the ear properly. 10/10 for me
stavvy
I was talking to a chap at a game fair once about these and other moulded plugs in general. He told me that your ears will grow/ change shape over the years and these moulded plugs will eventually not fit. Has anybody else heard about the ear change thing? I'd like a pair of CENS but £500 and the possibility that they might not fit for ever put me off.
aris
Not a big problem with cens as the electronics are removable, and you can put them in a new set of plugs. In fact you can buy the passive ones, and repace the passive inserts with electronic ones - they have the same fitting. aris
The other plus with this is that 2nd hand cens digitals have value as anyone can buy them off you and retrofit into their plugs.
