Churchill
Make sure you have eye and ear protection. Relax and enjoy it, take your time and don't get frustrated when you miss.
ThePestControllers
good point never gave ear protection a thought and is eye protection a must
Animal Mother
Eye and ear protection are compulsory on clay ranges. Also, even though you've been field shooting for a while, listen to the instructor, he/she knows best.
Twistedsanity
dont point your gun at the instructor, they get upset if you do that
vampire
I had my first clay shooting session last month and hit 12 out of twenty ,its really weird how you hold gun pointing and tracking clay, when you have been so used to hiding behind a net for years and only moving/shooting at last minute. Couple of the other guys there had never held a gun before and with the aid of the man running it they hit 17 out of 20.
mad1
Exactly as been said .. Listen to what's been said and don't be embarrassed to ASK questions .. And always treat the gun as loaded even if you know it's empty !! Relax and enjoy it most of all ;-)
DAVE_B
Agree with everything so far. With safety, pay loads of attention as this will give you the tools to make future visits to clay grounds better as you will have the confidence that you are safe and your fellow shooters and instructors will realise this too. After safety, the key is to have fun. The lessons are not like have a go sessions! Lessons are there to give to the tools and skills to approach all sorts of targets. So pay attention as while simple the targets you attack on a lesson are basically what you will approach where ever you shoot. Good Luck, Enjoy! ThePestControllers
Thank you very much for your advise i will take it on board. i am really looking forward to my first lesson i take it they will provide ear defenders and glasses or do i have to buy some. cheers Daz
the pigeon man
Better buying you never know where they bin !!
jackinbox99
Lot of places let you borrow ear defenders etc, but if you are thinking you will do this more than once, best off buying some. They arnt that expensive. My brother just uses them roll in foam ear plugs which cost a quid or something. As others have said, dont get disheartnened or frustrated if you miss a shot, just relax and enjoy yourself. Id also make sure you mount the gun right, else you`ll end up with sore cheek & sore shoulder for a few days after!
HDAV
good point never gave ear protection a thought and is eye protection a must OMG so you dont normally protect your hearing when shooting then, or your eyesight......................... ThePestControllers
nope in fact nobody anywhere I've been wears ear protection ever. and the only people that wear glasses are those that need to wear glasses.

Blimey, suprised at that. My electronic Ear defenders can give you heads up when a pigeon comes in from behind, can hear the wings from afar. delburt0
Chill out and enjoy don't take it serious (safety excluded from that phrase) if you miss put it behind you and never take it personnel I was getting better scores at 16 than I am now but I suppose that's the joys of getting older as stated remember your glasses and plugs , but most of all enjoy Edited June 5, 2013 by delburt0
