dob
Took nipper out with my sub 12ft lb air arms s410 . He got 6 rabbits pulled into last field saw two sets of eyes. Squeaked them in to show him how it's done . It was 2 fox cubs about mid size, got them both to 20ft of us . Wish I took 12 bore as well now. Lesson learnt. welshwarrior
Sorry no its not I have used and regularly seen a 22 pistol used on the farm to put cattle and sheep out of their misery I'm not going to take a 22 rifle to shoot mountain rams next time, I'll stick to a 308. In perfect conditions the air rifle worked if you'd pulled that shot a little (we all do it) would the air rifle still have penetrated and killed or would it have left the fox injured? As I don't know I will stick to a rifle or shotgun for fox shooting (I won't use my 22 LR on foxes over 50 yard).

grimey121uk
A 22short has plenty of power to kill a human, yet armed police and soldiers don't use them!
secretagentmole
Why not buy a Daystate Wolverine .303? Air rifle that will deal with foxes!
grimey121uk
Why not buy a Daystate Wolverine .303? Air rifle that will deal with foxes! Or a 22lr for 1/4 of the price, more power and a longer range. Bearing in mind a 22lr isnt really fox legal

al4x
Also bear in mind cubs when just above ground are rabbit sized, I've shot one many years ago with an air gun but it was very small. As for the .22 discussion come on there is no legal caliber for foxes, purely what firearms depts make up
evo
i once watched my father shoot a fox with his .22rf it was only 30yrds away but it dropped like a stone, and even though it was a .22rf at that distance it certainly did the job
al4x
Watch this weeks field sports Britain and how the fox drops to the .22 and the smack the bullet still makes into the ground afterwards. It's all about the range
scotslad
Another thing to remember is, ignoring the ethical/humane destruction side of the fox, if ur either taking pot shots esp on the lamp with either under powered guns/rifles or extreme ranges and missing ur just making the fox lamp shy, far better to leave it be and come back with the right tool for the job
ratbuster
Someone offered me an Spanish made Atlas 20 bore / .22 magnum combination gun / rifle, would that .22 magnum be enough to kill foxes on a regular base or should I go for a. 22 centrefire. That little gun would be very handy having around in the car. Sadly no slugs for the 20 bore are allowed. The distance from high-seat to fox would be maximum 50 meters. Ammo to go with the rifle are Hornady V-Max 30 grains. Rb
scotslad
I take it ur talking about a 22wmr calibre, at 50ish yards u'd prob be ok but ur problem might be shot placement have a drilling. I don't know how accurate drillings are or if u can fit a decent scope to it. With the smaller calibre's shot placement is vital. Drilling's seem like a great 1 gun solution but i think in reality they do both jobs rather poorly compered to either a straight shotgun or rifle
Fib new
It's not a drilling... It's a conbination 20/76-.22wmr. Very nice guns for gamekeeping work. They are pretty accurate -though not as accurate as a 22lr. Sarasquetta and atlas are both the same guns. Foxes up to 80 yards are doable -mind you, 22wmr has almost tripple the energy compared to 22lr. Nice tool.
Underdog
The combi gun will be a peach, I used a Savage 12/Hornet for years and it was brill. Crows beyond 100yds on the open sights no problem, loads of foxs. Had a 20/22mag also, also a good vermin tool. Buddy had a 20g/22lr and that was brilliant too. U.
