flynny
Ey up lads and lasses, I'm off to the norfolk broads on friday, me and a few of the blokes have hired a river cruiser to do a bit of fishing, I have a couple of questions as I have never been , 1) Are the broads tidal?, as on google maps they seem to be fed from the sea at great yarmouth, 2) Are there any edible fresh/saltwater fish in there and what types,( I know you can eat most fish but I mean nice tasting ones) ATB Flynny
Penelope
Yes, they are tidal, but not so much as you would notice it much. What system are you going on, Bure, Thurne? No edible sea fish and I doubt that you would want to eat the fresh water fish (please don't take any fish as otters, Eastern Europeans and cormorants have decimated stocks). There are now limits as to what you can take from fresh water (Check the Environment Agency's web site). Please don't pike fish unless you have a fair bit of experience with them, they are the most fragile of the freshwater species and don't handle summer captures too well. Lord Geordie
Tides affect ALL the broad waterways bit less drop the farther you are from the estuary! Norwich yaucht station normally drops around a few feet but in Gt Yarm it's a HUGE tide. Fishing is really good and as already said Bream at dusk is fab. Plenty of Ruff, roach, perch, eels, pike etc in there! Have a good time Matey! I love the Broads.
flynny
Cheers guys and gals, I will be mainly spinning for pike and perch .I was just wondering if there is edible stuff in there. We are getting the cruiser from stalham and will be heading towards coltishall as this has the most amount of pubs on the riverside ha ha Ps ,Penelope don't worry I've been fishing for pike on and off for 30 years, but sea fishing from my boat in Anglesey is more my cup of tea as you can eat most of what you catch, Atb Flynny Edited July 3, 2013 by flynny

norfolk dumpling
Hickling broad excellent for big bags of bream. Quite a few other species too inc a few rud . Also it is huge, shallow and with a hard bottom. If you get out early you might also see/hear a bittern. Spent long long days on this stretch of water. Angling shop nearby at potter heigham. Whitebridges
You can catch saltwater fish in The Broads system. For example bass have been caught up on the Thurne as far as Potter Heigham. Flounders are caught regularly on the Yare up to Bramerton and the Bure around Acle. Mullet regularly frequent Breydon Water. At the rear of ASDA close to where the Bure and Yare meet is regularly fished for flatties and bass with some good catches usually in the Spring and Autumn. I wouldn't call Sea Trout a sea fish but they run The Broads rivers and some good ones are caught in the Wensum city centre reaches to the end of navigation. There are plenty of coarse fish everywhere and 100lb + net of Bream is fairly easy to get especially if you can fish at night. Oops i've just noticed the dates of this post. I hope you had a good holiday flynny! Edited August 2, 2013 by Whitebridges
