roughshooter
I was in a Eley dealers shop today and was told that Eley are withdrawing the sale of the Lightning cartridges due to excessive pressures (not just a bit over but a lot) Anyone else heard this? motty
I was in a Eley dealers shop today and was told that Eley are withdrawing the sale of the Lightning cartridges due to excessive pressures (not just a bit over but a lot) Anyone else heard this? I very much doubt that is true. Edit - maybe it is! I've just read elsewhere online that there was a powder metering error in the 36 gm shells and they are being recalled. Guest cookoff013
you cannot have just speed with no recoil. fast shells recoil. full stop. even 24g loads kick, if ramped up.
TIGHTCHOKE
you cannot have just speed with no recoil. fast shells recoil. full stop. even 24g loads kick, if ramped up. OR we could go back to longer barrels and slower burns!
Guest cookoff013
OR we could go back to longer barrels and slower burns! that wont change a thing. my 24g steel 1400fps recoils as much as a 24g lead at the same speed. same numbers from the n/s recoil-ometer. wildfowler.250
I know a shop that still has some of these for sale. Should I be sticking up or best avoided? Mind you they were £11 something a box!

Mind you they were £11 something a box! **** paying £11 a box for some steel, if you shop around you can get boxes of 10 mammoths for about £3 and they are equally as good. wildfowler.250
Cheers mr sheen, that was my thoughts! I want to buy some of the mammoth 3" no. 2's or 3. Are these £3 a box of 10? About £7.50 for 25? I'm actually desperate to source some up in Scotland but when I looked online, they were about £12 a box as well :(
Mr-Sheen
i was getting boxes of 10 for £3 from john coppins last season, so its about half the price of lightening steel. Im not convinced Coppins have any structure on their pricing, i think he makes it up as he goes along, but he always has everything in stock and is a real nice chap so i won't complain If you are ever down this way for some fowling on the Wash then i would more than happily meet up and bring you a whole stack of them, or vice versa if i am ever in scotland i could bring some to you
wildfowler.250
That's a very kind offer, thank you very much I should be able to track some down in Scotland...Im hoping.. it's not that sparse a country Edited July 30, 2013 by wildfowler.
greylag
Great cartridge and was very pleased with the performance end of last season.I do hope that they do not stop production as i thought that there was at last a fast steel cartridge to compete with other grands. ayano3
Been informed that Eley withdrew sales of Lightning Steel due to concerns about pressures but tests proved all was fine. They will be back on the shelves of my local dealers very soon. That's what I was told by the owner tonight.
