BRNDL
Hi all, I hope you can help. My 9 month old lab ate a stick of plant food around 2 weeks ago and most mornings since then she has been being sick, usually foamy sick or bile. I did google this and a few suggested she was being sick out of hunger in the morning...so we started to up her food and also give her a small handful of food before bed. This didnt work....after ages trying to rack our brains my wife finally churps up and says the dog ate some plant food 2 weeks ago! The dog seems fine in herself, loads of energy and playful, just this episode of vomiting in the morning? Can anyone help?
Browning
She isn't eating grass at all is she? One of my bitches will regularly eat grass on her morning walk and quickly throw it back up in the form of bile mixed with grass. It helps to settle their stomachs. JDog
My dogs are eating loads of grass on their morning walk at the moment. The warm weather seems to have affected their stomachs in some way.
Twistedsanity
If your dog is honking up bile in the mornings try giving them a handful of biscuits before bed
BRNDL
Thanks chaps. No it seems to be happening before we feed her. Like 8am. We feed between 6.30 and 7pm then a small handful before bed and then feed again around 8am-9am. Yes she has been eating grass during walks but never sick during the day. Its £30.00 before the vet has even looked at her! If your dog is honking up bile in the mornings try giving them a handful of biscuits before bed Yes we have already done that. Thansk for the info tho
delburt0
Is she pregnant might be a bout of morning sickness
al4x
the simple thing is 2 weeks is a long time, if it was just a few days I wouldn't worry but after 2 weeks it is a trip to the vet required whether its £30 or not that is part and parcel of owning a dog. BRNDL
She is booked in for tomorrow. I was hoping someone may be able to offer a solution or experienced a similar thing before I go to the vet...
WGD
I would be off to the vet, hope she's ok.
subsonicnat
No Rat poison about I hope, it has the same symptoms, even a lick of it will be really bad: My wifes died from it, vet every day, make sure no rats have brought BLOCKS into the garden, I think thats where mine came from:

She seems herself 99% of the time, just the sickness at around 6am-7am in the mornings. She has not deteriorated from a visual perspective. Will soon find out hopefully, she is booked in for tomorrow 4pm.
WGD
If there are no other symptoms other than her being sick once in the morning then I would doubt she has been poisoned.
Yellow Bear
Had a similar problem with our 4 month Sprocker - did not get as far as the vet as the reception nurse said it's fairly common in young dogs (just bile - some form of hunger reflex) and suggested we try a little WET food just before bed time - 3 days in and it seems to be working. delburt0
I wouldn't worry too much. She is passing fluids and stools ok. She is only been sick once a day a set time. She is fine the rest of the time. I don't think is anything terminal to worry about as she is only having passing symptoms maybe hunger relex high carbs, kibble food Diabetes I'm sure the best thing is the vets just for your own piece of mind... Atb... Just out of curiosity look at this http://k9joy.com/dogarticles/conditioning.php Edited July 18, 2013 by delburt0

BRNDL
Ok. So just to inform others of my dogs status. We went to the vets, he reckons it is the plant food that has not been digested properly and the stomach acid is finding it tough breaking it down to pass. The sickness early morning was the time of day when there is least in the stomach so that triggers vomiting to try an bring up the foreign object. Gave us some tablets for 16days to clear it up. Been on the 2 days now and she has not been sick since. ATB BRNDL

BRNDL
and a prime example why its best to see the vet rather than take internet advice if its a persisting condition and not something obvious. I stand corrected. Thanks for your advice. It was always going to be a vet job I think.
al4x
Its a peculiar one and a few days of vomiting once and you can leave it and most things sort themselves out a week and its pushing things a bit and a fortnight there are no questions its a definite vet job. The problem with the net is lots of people have an opinion its sorting out whats tripe is the hard bit. I'm usually in the don't go to the vet unless its really required camp as most things do sort themselves, yours might have but its definitely odd and worth keeping an eye on
BRNDL
Yes certainly. The 2 weeks is pushing it I agree. Initially we thought she had been wetting her bed overnight but sleeping in in it near enough. After a camping trip with the dog in the tent we found out she was being sick early morning and vomiting bile! A few days later she was at the vets. It has been 2 days now and seems to have cleared up although we have another 2 weeks of tablets to run.
