Pinkella
Hi, when you go to a game fair are you wadded up with bag loads of cash or do you take a smaller amount and take your debit/ credit card just in case? Are the days of having a deal and a haggle drifting away or are you armed appropriately for those situations? (cant believe I'm doing a thread at this time of the morning and watching Jeremy Kyle)

Scully
Take both.At the just gone CLA there were more than a few problems with card transactions because of a poor signal, and at the last fair I was at vendors could be seen waving the consoles about in the air like mobile phones in an attempt to make a connection. I can't believe ANYONE watches Jeremy Kyle,no matter what time of the day it is.
Pinkella
lol Scully, I'm struggling to get my head round it myself Yes even in this age of modern technology, a mobile card machine still has issues!

old rooster
Interesting observations, it does depend to some extent on the business being dealt with. I bought some bits and pieces in the tackle shop the other day and the guy who owns it reckons the bank charges them more to bank cash than the credit card companies charge to process a payment. I still like to pay cash for anything bought from private individuals but increasingly cash isn't king for recorded business transactions. craig hill
Never ever have cash on me nowadays, every shop has card payment, saves endingvup with a wallet full of coppers/coins, BUT, game fairs/car shows and such it's way better to negotiate with cash, cash all the way

rjimmer
increasingly cash isn't king for recorded business transactions. If the transaction is linked to business, I use a card so that there is a record for the accountant to look at. Live catch traps would be such a transaction. Del T
Always haggle with cash. In fact I'm proud to say I've never used a chip and pin machine yet!
paul87
I went with a bit of cash to a game fair. But the thought crossed my mind. What happens if there is something I really want but don't have enough for. Then I thought, most stalls sell online. If I was stuck could I use my mobile to paypal them? I'm sure they would be happy to take any method, a sale is a sale at the end of the day. But cash as said is best for bargaining
stroudwaterboy
Debit card and Credit card, as said earlier it is cheaper for companies if you use a debit card than cash. If they get awkward I use the credit card, did that once when buying a car the salesman said I could pay in anyway I wanted, even credit card assuming I wouldn't have the credit limit, the look on his face when it went through! aris
Of course they prefer cash - the money goes right into their back pocket and never sees the light of day in their books.
Pinkella
aris on what grounds can you base your statement? I have always given a receipt to anyone purchasing my products wheather/ weather they pay cash, card, bankers draft, bacs paypal and so on ooohh postal order
aris
No different to paying a builder cash in hand.
escortmagnum999
gotta be cash, you will have a chance of a discount with cash, you have very little leverage paying by card in my experience. And I agree with aris, almost no cash will never be put through the books, especially after a game fair. A good accountant should take care of such situations. Anybody that claims they don't pocket cash is either a fool or a liar. Before everybody gets all het up, its just my opinion!
