have been using this ammo for about 2 years now and have always found it spot on,however the packaging changed from blue packets to black packets not so long ago and since then i have found i am missing shots i would normally hit no problem,so my question, since the packets changed have winchester done something to the ammo as well,i am aware it could be a dodgy batch but the gamekeeper has said he has also found this, some rounds appear to be shooting high, anyone else with this problem,am thinking of going back to cci

Last brick I bought (new packaging) are spot on accurate although a little lower than normal speed @1024fps av. Last brick I bought in old blue packaging were not so good, usable but some fliers & a wide spread through chrono:1026-1071fps.For the amount I have used over the years most have been good.

My mate had exactly same problem funnily enough. Winchesters wont group at all now spreading around 2" @ 50 yards !

Exact same situation.

Last night we went and shot eley, cci , rws etc and he settled on the eleys which came back at around 1/4" groups.... much better

I don't think they've altered the round its more than likely just a different batch and youl get this with any ammo. In 6 months time you may buy another batch from Winchester of the same ammo and it will shoot alright, in the meantime id just switch ammo.... :good:

been out again tonight and although they seemed to be better still had 3 go high for no reason, think i might go back to cci s for a while,as has been said could just be the batch just seems a bit strange the problem seems to have come with the change of packaging

i think winchester are the best selling 22 subs and have been for quite a while, but if the problems persist, and its found to be more widespread i can see a lot of people changing

steve b if you have a box of blue left, does the hollow point look to be the same size as the new packaged ones, probably clutching at straws but just wondering if theres any differance visually although i suppose if they have done anything it would be so small you wouldnt notice the differance anyway, could they have shaved a bit off the 40g ?

I have'nt got any new ones to compare my old stock with. I would'nt have thought that the bullet weight has been reduced, more of a problem with powder weight. I buy my ammunition in blocks of 500 or 1000, and can't remember where I bought the last lot, as I've had them for over a year. As mentioned in a previous post, I have used Winchester subs since the 1980's and have always praised them for their accuracy and quality. I'm not too sure now as my confidence in them has been dented.

Someone will correct me if wrong but as far as i am aware 95% of 22 rimmie ammo is made in the CCI factory in the USA. CCI make other branded products. Yes bad batchs are norm probs but u need to find a subsonic that your rifle likes n stick with it. upgrade your allowance n buy a big brick of one batch.

I'm sure that a lot of Winchester ammunition is manufactured in Australia.

As mentioned, I've used 1000's of Winchester sub sonic for over 30 years, and most were fired through my BRNO Model 2 which I recently got rid of. My new CZ452 gets on well with them, apart from the faulty batch.

Unless something has changed in the last 18 months, the last I heard Winchester .22 subs were indeed manufactured in Australia. It would be worth finding out of that is still the case. If production has moved that is very likely to account for this, in which case I would lose faith in Winchesters. If it has not, it is likely a bad batch is the cause. This does happen even with the best ammo. I've been using Lapua SK for ages. The last batch I bought, though, were very waxy and hopelessly erratic. I took them back and got a brick of Winchesters instead - which are fine - and I was planning to return to SKs when the winchesters were gone trusting that the bad batch had gone through the system.
