henry d
It would seem your views are in the minority......not racist at all but offensive to lovers of PC. aris
The two are different and cannot be muddled, though you have tried to. I stand by my words, if you belittle another race/ethnicity then you are a racist, no matter how much you twist it about with rhetoric and there is nothing wrong with patriotism unless it is used against another. And I stand by my words and I ask again - which ethnicity or race have they belittled? Wikipedia says: Racism is usually defined as views, practices and actions reflecting the belief that humanity is divided into distinct biological groups called races and that members of a certain race share certain attributes which make that group as a whole less desirable, more desirable, inferior, or superior. So which race has been belittled?
Sprackles
Matters not that I am in a minority, http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15 I am well aware of the law but it still does not change the fact that the majority do not believe Godfrey Blooms comments are racist and that belief is not contrary to legislation. keg
Not had a chance to listen to his interview as I am at work so I will reserve judgement about his so called weasel words but as many others have stated, if anyone in society voices an opinion that is out of line from the "official" line, they are classed as extremists. I blame new communism for this. I will stand up for anyone's rights but do not agree that his comments were racist. He was not stoking up hatred or belittling anyone or any country. Gimlet
ARIS - If he isn`t belittling anyone then he is speaking total rubbish. He is just twisting his words, as you are, as he has been caught out. Put as simply as I can, he has belittled every country that gets aid from the UK so therefore he has referred to each of these in a belittling way and as such I feel that I can refer to him as a racist. **edited due to cross post. No he hasn't. He has scorned tinpot dictatorships in general who receive and misuse British aid to line their pockets and oppress their own people, and he has belittled the bleeding-heart liberalism which perpetuates this farce. We all know this happens and we all know the money is borrowed and we all know that our children will have to pay for it. To say he needs psychiatric treatment and that all UKIP members must be similarly unbalanced because you disagree with their political views is preposterous. You are in danger of displaying the very same spluttering indignation which you perceive and dispise in him.
e2000e2000e
He called African Countries Bongo Bongo Land and said if we give them money they will buy sunglasses, not exactly forward thinging or progressive, he has generalised based on race, (African) that they are corrupt. I know some govenments in africa have problems with corruption but they are many that don't and many politicians fighting corruption. On UKIP in general, I'm not enamoured with the EU, but I'm not convinced by UKIP, I think it takes a little more that 'common sense' to run a country, and have seen very little over than 'good ideas' the man down the pub might have that may not have been fully thought through. Reece
The comments were made at a public meeting a month ago. No outcry then. It's just a pathetic sensationalised non story. The man's certainly a character but the underlying point is 100% valid. A country in debt should keep taxpayer's money at home. A lot of governments in African countries have problems with corruption and I would think twice before sending any aid there. wildtrax
why is stating a fact such as we send lots of money abroad which we all know in many but not all cases is missused such a problem? the uk has always been a generous country as given over the years much more than other better off eu countrys, after natural disasters and famines etc. but times are hard as a country we are not well off and therefore if any! of the money is going to be missused we should stop sending it.. people here have needs the nhs, education, and why should our elderly go cold in the winter. if more of the spineless politians we had stood up and said much the same we might be able to slowly get this country back on its feet. overandunder2012
i hear they play the bongos there so i guess theres a good nightlife, i suppose as a political party its better to be in the news for the wrong reasons than not in the news at all. this will either finish him or make him a household name Edited August 7, 2013 by overandunder2012
old rooster
I'm not quite sure how Henry's logic works on this, in one post he says that there is no such place as Bongo Bongo land, which would suggest that it can't have a population and subsequently no race yet in other posts states that the comments were racist? I note that the guy has now had a metaphorical slapped leg
e2000e2000e
Could you quote the bit where he mentioned African countries? Fair point I guess, technically he dosn't, technically what he said isn't racist, I assumed that bongo bongo land refered to Africa as it sounds similiar to some African country names and has historically been used as slang to refer to Africa. Or is it just where um bongo comes from.
henry d
And I stand by my words and I ask again - which ethnicity or race have they belittled? Wikipedia says: So which race has been belittled? OK, if there is no such place then the man is a talking rubbish, as we cannot send aid to a land that does not exist. If however he is using language to hide the fact that he means all nations that are receiving aid from UK coffers are bongo bongo land then he is indeed a racist, is that any simpler?
