Fun evening on the corvids

I went out to a clients house yesterday evening with the air rifle. There were "hundreds" of rabbits eating his lawn  Well I got there at 5.30pm and hung around til nearly 9pm and saw 3  However, there was a very good flightline of crows from 6pm to 8.30 just across the corner of one of his paddocks. Quick word about it and I was back there tonight. Its only a small place, 10 acres or so, horses, sheep, few houses nearby, so it was a job for the 410 hushpower I thought :good:

I tucked up behind some haylage bales and waited for them to flight back to the roost :good: Almost bang on 6pm, they started. I sacrificed the first few shots with some small fourlongs to check the horses were ok with it. It got their attention, but after a few, they were fine. At the same time, I was missing the crows which was frustrating  Its been a long time in the cabinet and I had forgotten the sight picture. I switched on to the 3" magnum subsonics, and still shot like a dufuss  I swung through a fairly low one and thought I had overshot it when I pulled the trigger, it was punched out of existence by the load of no6 :good: I then remembered how much lead I needed to give them with the hushy, and that was it, I was away :good: The little gun dropped some absolute corkers, pile driving and helicoptering over my shoulder into a deep bramble packed drainage ditch. Driven shooting at its finest!!.

I packed up at 8.15 with 17 shot. These four I took infront and they virtually landed on top of me  You'll have to guess what the other 13 looked like as I wasn't going to get ripped to shreds for you lot :lol: Again, not a big bag, but it was cracking sport. No net, poles, decoys etc, just the hushy and a pocket full of carts :good:

As an aside, part of the reason I went was to try and get a good word put in by my client to his mate that has a farm down the road.........method in my madness

Good to see the hushers doing the business :good:

Are they jackdaws?

There were a coup[le of Jackys there. They are eating all the horse and sheep food, so they are on the list.

Well done mate, I never managed to fully master my modded .410 so let it go as I was wounding stuff. I wish I still had it now as it was a useful little tool when you needed to be quiet.

Yes they take a bit of adjusting to. At just over half the speed of a standard 12g load, it needs a lot more lead than you think. But once you've got them in the pattern, it knocks them out at very decent ranges. :good:
