Remington 597 vs Ruger 10/22

Finally got my FAC after applying for it back in March and looking for my 1st semi-auto since its main use will be down the shooting club and for practical rifle but eventually I will get my long awaited FAC adjusted for hunting so will also be used for rabbits eventually as well.

Both the Remington and Ruger are very similar but which is better for a first gun?

Love the remmy for how it shoulders and feels. The Ruger is more reliable and has a better trigger mechanism to improve on.

Thats my opinion however I would now have none of them but would have the older Remington auto or pump instead and they are cheaper. Their triggers are a doddle to improve too.

semi auto's can be a real pain ,i've had two 1022 in the past both custom the first one was ok other than the mag not liking the wax on eley subs and i was forever cleaning it ,the second gun was a waist of time two three shots at most then it would jam drove me half mad.a couple of years back i felt the need for more madness and was going to buy a cheap 597 from syss but when they tested it that would'nt function as it should so did'nt bother.loads of each sold but if you feel the need go 1022 more bits on the self for them.after saying all that they can be fun

Have a look at the CZ 511, I use mine for paper punching and vermin control and haven't really got a bad thing to say about it.......well ok, I wish the trigger could be a bit lighter.

You'll pick up a minter with scope for under £250 (probably a lot less), they are built to last and don't seem to have the ammo cycling issues that other semi LR's suffer from. Oh and you can get the gun apart in 30 seconds and cleaned within a minute or two!
