I have been using a Rothenberger Super-Fire 2, for all of my soldering up to 54mm now (MAPP gas on the bigger stuff) http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Rothenberger_Super-Fire_2_Blow_Torch.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=feedmanager&gclid=CM-ku5yU4rkCFQfMtAodwA4A6Q

Gas does work out more expensive than the old propane bottles, but for flexibility it can't be beaten.

3 yrs isn't that long my man, my old benzo matic is getting on for 10, although i don't use it that much, probably why it's playing up and i can't strip it down to fix it, are the surefire2 units strippable?

3 years of daily use and not a problem, but yes, they are fully strippable. I had one previous for a few years too...but lost it (read left it somewhere and soomeone lifted it!)!
