What to buy?

As Red Beard has said, a Series Landy may be ok if your not doing many miles. Insurance can be as little as £100 on a classic policy, and Tax free, so very cheap motoring indeed. The only downside I have found when using a Series as a shooting vehicle is with it having sliding door windows, you can't shoot out of the vehicle whilst driving.

A Defender is a good choice too, more comfortable than a Series, and keep fit windy down windows means you can shoot out of it.

I have found, with the Land Rovers that I have owned, buy right and you won't loose money on it.

Looking to buy a little something for the shooting season / fun.

I'd like either a defender 90 or a jeep wrangler. Looking to spend 3-4k. What do people think /experiences with either?

Cheers!

p.s. please don't suggest a vitara or jimny thing..... I'm not gay!

whats gay about owning a vitara or jimny???????????

have you had one???????

with three to four grand i cant see you getting much for your money with a defender or a jeep wrangler ,anything worth having is gonna be quite a bit more than that ,you obviously have expensive tastes buddy ,good luck with whatever you get.

you would get a fairly nice disco with that money though .

That's my problem! Every defender I see that looks ok is 7 or 8 k and I can't justify that for a bit of fun.( especially when there so old! )

I don't really fancy a old series either so might be back to the drawing board.......

Jap pickup is what you want, that money will get you one under 10 years old and under 100k commercial rate of road tax they are a billy bargain for what you get. A 4k defender is asking for trouble unless you are seriously lucky

i had a series buddy and whilst i did love it i was constantly repairing or replacing parts and even though i didnt use it a lot getting 12 to the gallon and bunging 20 quid in it every time i went to the shoot was getting very boring . mine wasnt tax exempt and i sold it on ebay for 3.5k within 20 mins of listing it, if it had been tax exempt you could add at least another grand to that price.

i sold it and bought an l200 for the same money and it goes anywhere my series went only with more comfort an close to three times the economy.

I have always liked the Jeep Wrangler and if you do not want to go to fare at 20mpg I think they are a good buy they will go anywhere they do not rust as much as Land Rovers do and best of all they are much harder to steel than a LR and a 4ltr is a bit fast as well on the other hand if you would like something with a bit more comfort you could try a Jeep Cherokee XJ.
