Munchie, would you be kind enough to explain your cleaning routine for the Maxus, as its a really reliable gun and i want to help you solve this problem. Most of the time I tend to drop No1 into the ejection port. I too am a relatively newcomer to sa guns and have a few other negs after 1000 cartridges. 1. The chequering on the forend is too sharp. After 120 targets in an hour the left thumb is sore. 2. The mag cut off gets in the way of my left palm so I have removed it. 3. The safety, when off, protrudes too far. I can feel it with my trigger finger. I have seen a Maxus where the safety appears to go in further. Must inspect mine. On the plus side, I like the supplied 1/4 choke, it gives a good pattern for long range targets using No8 fibres. It also stays put in the barrel. Tedly47 Posted May 8, 2016 Report Share Posted May 8, 2016 Had mine for just over a year, it has never jammed no matter what I put through it! mines a carbon sporting so only a 3" chamber bought some cheap extended chokes off a chap from this site and it's a great gun.. It is my main workhorse gun (hide) and the only thing I'd say is it doesn't pattern well with some carts but you could say that about any gun, it's just trial and error. I know it must be leaving a bad taste in your mouth but can you try another maxus as you might just have a problem gun? If your anywhere close to north wales your welcome to try mine although I'm shamed to say it's not the cleanest of examples!!!!!!! Out of 1000 cartridges mine has jammed once due to a poorly shaped crimp and failed to autoload once with a dropped cartridge by a previous unknown shooter. Unable to 'separate the gas system components to simplify cleaning' as shown on Page 19 of the manual. Although loading ok,too often on the second shot the trigger was solid,would not fire,would unload and reload,fire one ok,then too often trigger was solid again! TbirdX Posted May 9, 2016 Report Share Posted May 9, 2016 I have a Maxus Hunter, it'll fire anything 70mm and 24grams upwards. It has never jammed when using that cart type. I bought the wife one, 2nd hand when she started shooting. It too was fine. I promised her she could have a new one is she stuck at it, she did and we bought a new grade 3. It went back twice for jamming issues and the third time we rejected it. They tried to blame the carts, (it's a gun, it's supposed to fire anything), the way the wife loaded it, (Funny, she never has a jam firing mine), the way she held it, (again, never had a jam firing mine) then, reluctantly, they agreed to replace it. The replacement is fine. The minimum I expect from a semi automatic is that it's a semi automatic. A reliable one. Nothing spoils the experience more than a gun you can't rely on. B25Modelman Posted May 28, 2016 Report Share Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) We were out yesterday on the clays and put 230 cartridges through my Maxus Premium in around 1 1/2 hours. My son and I were shooting the gun so it was getting very hot at times because we were practicing on some stands i.e. 20+ with little break between some stands. We had 5 cartridge misfires and 3 jams. The misfires showed very light indents in the primer and one cap clearly had a very low set primer. I will be checking all the misfires today (no time after yesterday) and stripping the gun (as always) for inspection. The cartridges were Just Cartridge CSP Competition #8 28 gram felt...which I think are made by Gamebore. Katash Posted May 28, 2016 Report Share Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) I have a ultimate partridges Maxus and a cheap Fabarm auto, I use a product called froglube on both and I'm sure it helps as both guns cycle anything, and the Fabarm occasionally jammed with eley firsts before I used it. The bolt and pin are free and it assembles without issues. There is just one area where the ejector catch on the bolt meets the barrel when the bolt slams closed. Here is the effect after 1000 cartridges. It's a bright area where metal to metal meet. Can some of you Maxus users show me yours as I have shown you mine. Please, no car crash comments. My shooting mate had a similar problem with his Maxus not firing at times, I watched him in the hide one day whilst taking his safety off and noticed how soft he seemed to push the safety off, it would fire once then the trigger wouldn't pull, I wouldn't say it was really a misfire but more of a not firing, i told him to start applying more pressure to take the safety off which he did and he's never had the problem since. It seemed like the safety was just border line on/off and the kick of the gun made it go back into safety mode, I'm by no means a gunsmith but it worked for him and it doesn't miss a beat now. Spoke with Avalon guns who i brought it from and worked with their suggestion about cleaning the gun after every use and trying different cartridges, allowing a few hundred shells to let it bed in etc but my gun still jams on using good quality pigeon cartridges all 32g loads as well as good quality 27g clay cartridges. The gun was collected from me and returned to Browning a couple of weeks ago and returned to me saying it had been fixed with a new lifter fitted. I question if anything was done with it as when i got it back it failed on the 3rd cartridge i put through the gun and then a further 3 times from then on with 3 boxes of Superfast 27g fibre. These guns are supposed to shoot these cartridges with no issues especially the heavier 32g ones. Its now gone back to the seller Avalon guns who are returning it to Browning again but i have said i do not want this gun back as its not fit for purpose.
