Bringing stuff back from the states.

Usually around $45 to $75 (£30-£50) I got a friend to pick up a set for my 300 Blackout H&H Handi Rifle from Walmart when she was over a couple of weeks ago.

ITAR prohibits bullets and cases as well as powder, primers and loaded ammunition being brought back without an export permit.

However, in my experience (over the last 12 years) and that of many many others posting on here and elsewhere, bullets, cases, reloading equipment, presses, dies case prep tools etc. etc. have been brought back without a problem.

A couple of years ago we brought back 118Kg of luggage, almost all of that was shooting related, reloading press, stainless steel tumbler, several thousand bullets and cases, Sightron scope as well as just about everything else you can think of. All the cases were opened and inspected by the TSA without a problem. The only thing I've ever had removed was Birchwood Casey brass case cleaner as it's a Hazmat problem if it leaks onto aluminium.

Last year same again, about 3000 bullets, 1000 cases, case lube, dies, auto powder dispenser, case prep centre etc. etc.

Bas Pro are not that cheap, for some shooting stuff Walmart are cheaper!, luckily for me I have friends on the gulf coast and at Fort Drum Army base near New York so I get stuff from Brownells/Sinclairs, MidwayUSA Cabelas, Titan Reloading (Lee stuff) and Ebay US etc. shipped to them then bring it back when we go over.

You'll be fine as long as you don't put trigger components or barrels in your case but even then it's just weather your case gets searched. I bought back a pint of hopppes no 9 in my case when i shouldn't have been and it got through fine.

Just recently got a mag extension tube, clamp bolt handle and oil and that all got through okay

To throw a spanner in the works here (a big one, potentionally); yes, I hear what everyone is saying but pretty much all of this stuff is illegal to export from the USA without the proper paperwork from the US government, as has been pointed out above. I appreciate that people may get away with it all the time, even after it having been opened and inspected, but that does not change the issue. You are breaking the law.

If someone decides they don't want you doing it then the consequences don't really bear thinking about. Without beating about the bush; you are illegally exporting - smuggling is another word for it - controlled weapons, munitions and parts from a country which is not afraid of handing down massive sentences for that type of thing. Saving a few quid isn't worth it to my mind although that's just my view. Each to their own though and no one can say they didn't know after reading this thread.

I have brought back loads of shooting and fishing bits for Florida and will do it again on my next trip. Never had a problem.

On another note.

I have a friend who worked with sniffer dogs in a UK airport, he tells me if you go to a shooting range and fire some weapons the dogs can still pick up on the smell 24 hours later and indicate you. This could be a pain in the butt after a long flight. So if you do go to a range which I recommend leave it a good few days before you fly.

Take your FAC/SGC with you as it shows that you had a legitimate reason for setting the dogs off.
