looks like i have set my mind on one over the Nissan x trail ( hate the center speedo)

Good mpg on the diesel and handles better than the Nissan !!

am i mad or are they a good all round egg ?

The good lady has a 57 plate and can't fault it. She averages 45mpg I however am a tight sod and can avarage 55+ mpg B) Good motor

I have had my RAV for 7 years and it has been brilliant,it is used both as family transport and my off road shoot wagon.

My better half has an 07 Rav4, cracking little motor.

She only gets around 40 mpg though. She's had it a year now and it's not been any hassle.

I too am looking at a Rav 4. 2005<.

 

The only thing that concerns me is the 4wd system, am I right in saying it is automatic?

Ok they look a bit girly (I know that won't overly trouble you Magman) but they never go wrong and are cheap to run.

I had one and couldn't get on with the boot. The blooming door doesn't open fully on some and it restricts what can fit in boot. Drove me nuts sometimes. Mine was a xt4 2.2 on a 57 plate. Drove well and around 49mpg. The 4x4 is a push button on dash and only works upto 25mph

My dads had one for a few years and all he has done it put fuel in it. The 2L ones are AWD and on the Mk1 (at least) there is a button in the dash to lock the centre diff.

 

I also have a MK2 as my shoot/dog/ general smashing about car. It's also a 2L, is AWD but has an auto box. No button to lock the diff but apparently the box works out if it needs to and does it automatically.

 

Both are petrol and return around 25mpg real world

I owned a Toyota RAV 4 Diesel for from new. Had it 7 years and clocked up 136K miles in it. Good motor but the back door was a major problem. It opened from the side and it was impossible to open it fully. Sometimes it was a job to get stuff in the back.

I think the new RAV 4's open from the bottom then up. Much better IMHO. The change acknowledges the problem and customer dissatisfaction.

My missus now has a Nissan X-Trail Tekna Diesel and it is a much better wagon than the Toyota.
