Mentalmac
Hi Guys, Just after a little advice :-). One of my perms has a lovely flight line going accross the paddock with some huge tree's in the middle they seem to use as 'stepping stones' where I can often get a good half a dozen pigeons flying over. Also good for rabbits. However there is a game shoot next land along, and theres a 'no man's land' couple of fields between my bit and the game shoot, that are owned by my landowner - but I don't shoot over them. However, the game keeper is allowed to use these fields on game days.Is it a bad thing to shoot pigeons the day before a game shoot? Will it in any way affect the next days shoot for the game guys? Any help much appreciated.
butchdickason
I suggest you speak to the gamekeeper, he will probably say no to you shooting, but it will open the door to shooting his land when the game season is finished. Mentalmac
Oh I only wish I could talk to him, he's not the easiest guy to talk to. He is known as a fairly fiesty chap... hence the 'no man's land' I keep to. When's a good time to talk to a game keeper and how do you go about finding them usually? Mentalmac
Haha I know, i often watch lovely large pheasants flying over head but I dare not touch them - I may be a lot of things but suicidal isn't one of them! Guess my real question is - If I shoot pigeons with a shotgun (only half a dozen or so), would this affect the pheasants for tomorrow in any way? The pegs are mainly around 1/2 mile away from where I am shooting.
wymberley
When's a good time to talk to a game keeper and how do you go about finding them usually? Stand with your gun in the middle of the field next to his boundary on a shoot day. As above, he'll find you and he'll also want to speak. Then you can explain that you've been trying to find him for the reasons given in your first post.
activeviii
speak to your land owner and get his thoughts. he may well have an issue with the gamekeeper and tell you to crack on. he might have a good relationship with him and introduce you to him. if in doute, ask. we had someone, in the woods yesterday, shooting pigeons. Siad he had permission, keeper knew nothing about it and to top it all off one 1 pheasant shot on the drive.
rimmie
Maybe get a moderated shotgun ? You can still shoot there, but won't cause as much disturbance. You can get .410 moderated guns for quite cheap, or a 20 b or something. Might be worth a look ?
chris o
I shoot on keeperd land all the keeper asks of me is not to shoot there 2 days before one of there shoot days and i can shoot any thing on there as long as its not something he puts down so wigeon teal geese hare rabbit ect are fare game and he is fine and i also help him out as i he showed me were all his fox snares are his grain bins. He too is a funny one but if you approach them in the right way they are genuinly fine and if i lamp on the land he just asks for a text before i go and one when i leave and if i shoot any fox to leave them in a certain area as proof i shot them. But with you being around 1/2 mile from there drive you shouldnt really have a problem but talk to him they appreciate people trying to not step on there toes and if you co operate and get pally it could lead to being invited as a guest and free day shooting. Kes
Find out if he goes to the pub and buy him a pint and explain. He may be feisty but feisty guys like straightforward blokes just the same as ordinary people.
bakerboy
communication often leads to co operation. Speak with him, if you do not ask the answer is always no.
spinach
I guess if you offered to dog in for him on that border he might not mind but I would check who has shooting rights on the no mansland . John.
