Cleaning: remove chokes or not?

Sorry of this has been asked a million times....

I've had my shottie about 4 months now and fastidiously clean it after every use (once or twice a week, 10-20 cartridges a time).

I've never removed the chokes as I've been worried about debris and residue damaging the thread.

Should I be removing them to clean or carrying on as I am?

I always remove and clean. If the chokes are removable, I think it best to make sure they are in good condition to prevent any issues with removal. It always gets me in the habit of rechecking the chokes before shooting as well.

I also take my choke key with me at all times and tend to check it a couple of times during the day just to be on the safe side.

It won't hurt if you do it every 100 or so shells but greese the threads to make sure, not much is needed ie if you can see it it's too much.

Often go 500-1000 shells before taking chokes out but they are greased and are smooth as silk, wouldnt leave it so long otherwise.

Your choice and I'm sure I'm ott as I like cleaning my guns.

I clean them regularly. Normally every 200-400 carts the gun gets a full clean which will include the chokes. The rest of the time the gun just gets a good wipe down after each use.

When cleaning chokes, spray a little bit of oil on the threads on the inside of the barrels and wipe round with a cloth. It will clean them out and prevent your chokes from being stiff to remove for next time you clean them.

My barrel is always stored cleaned with choke fitted, when I want to change choke to fit for purpose that day I will clean the threads etc and re-lube. to be fair that's about once a month. stuck chokes are a big issue if you just stick to one choke for all your shooting needs
