oscarsdad
I called BASC this week to see how much it would be to add my wife to my membership and make it a joint membership...the bloke on the phone was a bit gruff but I thought maybe that as his mannerism....£20 he says, ok, details exchanged and card details provided. Sorted. Just checked my bank account....BASC payment for £89!!!!!!! Not a happy bunny and they will be getting a phone call in the morning! So be careful with payments chaps. scimitar
So before checking with basc you have decided to just come on here and have a whinge, surely common sense says speak to basc first to find out what went wrong.
oscarsdad
So before checking with basc you have decided to just come on here and have a whinge, surely common sense says speak to basc first to find out what went wrong. Yes exactly I have - if I authorise a payment of £20 I do not expect £89 to be taken so I am entitled to moan. Have called them this morning and sorted it but that still does not make it acceptable, it's not exactly a difficult transaction.

I read the thread as if you are making a payment to BASC to make sure the right amount comes oot. After his experience,i would say that makes lots of common sense. aris
£89 is the joint membership price. Obvoiusly a misunderstanding or error on their part - it happens. I'm glad they sorted it out for you.

kent
Speak to them before us. I have had payments made to me from clients in error of way more and way less in the past, it happens. Show me the person who never made a mistake and I will show you a darn liar
oscarsdad
I have no gripe with BASC and have been a loyal member for many years...my thread could have been about any large organisation or company - if I authorise a payment I do not expect more than 4 times that amount to be taken - so when It was I am entitled to complain and primarily to make others aware in case a similar mistake is made and they don't notice. I agree it is a genuine mistake, but one that should not have happened in a very simple transaction.

oscarsdad
Did they bang the 69 back in your account? They said they were going to but I just checked and it's not there yet. Hopefully will be there by tomorrow and I won't have to chase it.

alendil
Btw it will take up to 3 days for cash to pop in to the bank.
Flashman
It's not that mistakes happen - they do - but more how an organisation deals with the fall out once they are made aware of the problem. Personally, posting on here about it seems rather drama queen-ish to me...

foxy bingo
I think oscarsdad is just telling members to be aware if you do change something like a membership {basc, aa, rac greenflag etc } and there is an addition to the fee make sure you tell the company to only debit the difference I will certainly keep in mind thanks oscarsdad
malkiserow
Not meaning to be pedantic here, but shouldn't the additional fee be proportional to the balance of the year dictated by the start of the single membership by the OP?
David BASC
Firstly I am so sorry for the cock up If this is not sorted promptly then let me know and i will sort it out. david.ilsley@basc.org.uk. If you let me know your membership number by PM or e-mail I should be able to see who dealt with your enquiry in the first place, I will have a word in their shell like…. As to the accusation by another poster on this thread that BASC gives out your personal information - no we do not. The only contact information about members in the public domain are trade members who choose to be in the online directory, or club / syndicates members who post up vacancies. If the person who made this accusation could please give me proof please David
