When I calculated it a few years back it equated to HMR per shot. Not sure how it does today as I bought in bulk and prices have fluctuated to say the least. If you want it real cheap some use home cast lead Bullets though you cant drive them very fast, never tried myself though

It is hmr

i do get about 13.50 gbp per 50 shots.

sierra bullets 100 pcs 14.10 gbp = 14p

PPU brass 100 21 gbp ( using it 10 times each) = 2p

powder lil gun tube is 40 gbp and that is 6125 grains of powder I load 12.8 grain each = 478 loads = 8p

primers 3 gbp 100 pcs (cci no. 500 ) = 3p

27p shot x 50 = 13.50 gbp.

i use hand press and lee dies and whole kit cost me 40 gbp.

and last adition was hand trim by lee for brass and that was about 8.5 gbp.

That will be analy calculated. :good::yes:

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to offload my .17HMR early next year and will be on the look out for a good .22 Hornet.

I found it to be a hard find, it seems to be a gun that becomes a keeper if the gun and the user are any cop they soon prove themselves to handy to part with. You might get lucky if a few tade in their .22 versions for the new .17 like happened to a lot of nice .22 lr rifles, who knows

whats barrel life like on the hornet i will be looking for somthing as a light fox rifle under nv

As good as it gets with LilGun, many rust out due to the chamber layout and condensation forming at the critical area. Just keep it cleaned and oiled in the safe and patch it out with meths and dry patches before use. Perfect for your purpose I recon go for a real good moderator and they will amaze you on how quiet a CF rifle can get everything but the sonic crack and thump as the bullet connects disappeared with mine and a T12 scout. They will according to data radically shorten without loosing much or any velocity (something I plan to try when I find the courage is a 14"- 16" tube )

I don't reload but, component pricing is quite simple to work out, whichever way you look at it its going to cost more than HMR, 30-40p is a reasonable suggestion, discuss/debate how you wish to make allowance for capital equipment involved as well! :good:

Firstly how the heck can you speak on something you don't actually take part in with any real authority on the subject  The cost of the gear don't need to be much and most buy primers and powder in large quantities and bullets as many as they can hold, few buy 500 - 1000 factory in one bash as its just very expensive. Keeping a stock of say 500 in components is very reasonable by comparison and 1000 if your permitted not prohibitive - I know precisely nobody who keeps a stock of 1000 personal factory centre fire from a cost basis alone. Of course its only the bullets themselves that your limited on no limits on powder, primers and brass, saving a lot of time and fuel

Others have put forwards the cost of components at todays rate and I politely suggest you listen to them for the facts! When I worked out cost I managed to get it to HMR prices (indeed slightly below) at that time and as most like myself re-load for all their rifles, I had to invest only in two dies about what it might cost for one or two trips to the RFD buying factory in smaller batches. My other gear has paid me back 20 or 30 times over

You cannot compare Hornet with .243 / .308 on reloading costs (factory v home) so the whole roughly half the price calc. is out the window. reasons are your using only around 1/4 of the powder, brass is way cheaper as are bullets and to be Honest I don't even use my big press to load the hornet ( I feel it counter productive) and know a few who don't even use scales with LilGun just fill the cases and level them off!

The only thing you cannot measure is the value of time though the satisfaction of getting stellar performance from your hand tailored loads is reward enough for most and it sure beats watching soaps on TV or playing computer games

I did find a clip of someone shooting (600 yds I think) at Bisley with an 'Ornit on the u-tube. I tried mine at 380 and to be fair it took a few more shots than I thought it might to get it on the paper I liken it to shooting .308 at 1000 for the first time and furthermore a bit pointless because you cant compete with one or shoot quarry at such ranges, don't underestimate what the Hornit can do under 300 though I find it hard t justify shooting at living things much past 200ish

You may just get away with that provided no one mentions the 500 yards and a small circle! :whistling:

Thats gone over my head sorry I must be thick today!!

The 720yd hare was for real and witnessed by more than one person at the time.

The gun was actually a K Hornet and home loads used.
