High Pheasant Loads

Recommended Posts

I do not think that there are any really bad cartridges today.

You will not go wrong with Express, Hull or Sipes or JK6 or even Eley ViP's.

If you are anywhere near the Midlands I would be more than happy to supply you with a suitable cartridge including Black Golds in various configurations or other brands.

Unfortunately I am in North Yorkshire buddy - All black golds are sold out up here. Am i right in saying black gold 6's are the same as hull / express 5's?

If you cant get the black gold 32g 5's, can you get hold of 35g 5's? I used them a couple of weeks ago in Wales and they were awesome.

Got some from Pickering air guns on Saturday, abit pricey but I like them. I also tried a box of the 35g 5s today and I agree with the above post

As asked, how high are they?

32g 5's doesn't seems an especially heavy load for high birds. I would be looking at 36g 5's to maintain pattern density. How are you choked?

I don't think there are poor cartridges, but those used on days when you shoot badly are not used again... for some reason?

Hi All,

I cannot get hold of any Black Gold 32g 5's so am willing to try another high performance cartridge. Does anyone have any recommendations?

That is a long way.....get a sheet of card, draw the shape of a pheasant and have a few shots. put a new bit of paper behind the front target and see how you get on...If it was me I would get some RC40's and use 1/2 and full.

Midweight O/U then 36gr of 4s or 3s through at a tight choke.

Lighter gun then reduce the shot load but you would be best advised to go with a sporting configeration gun rather than a light game gun. Heavy loads and light guns do not make happy bedfellows.
