spready
Finally got round to getting myself a semi auto 12g, went for a Beretta A301 , early 80's model but in perfect condition and at a very very good price and a lot less than a new escort. They had a fair few guns there , including a few Hatsans couple of 1100's and some new make I've not heard of called Pardus?? The looked lovely but was put off as I've not heard of them before , very cheap tho, starting at £375 brand new. On the A301 its the model with end screw cap for the chokes, it comes with a full choke and a half, what one would you recommend for pigeons and Rabbits? what type of choke are they , might try and get a 3/4 if i can find one. Hamster
At this stage the half would do just fine for just about everything, good choice by the way.

spready
Thanks for the advice, just outta interest what is the full choke used for?
marktattoo
Full choke normally used for clay pigeon shooting in events like abt / dtl
88b
I've got a 301, had it from new, originally they came with 1/4 1/2 and full. You can also shoot it with no choke in because the threads are on the outside of the barrel . Lovely gun I'll never sell even though I'm thinking of a new Benelli. Just keep it clean and you shouldn't have any problems.
bluesj
They may be getting on for 30 years old but still a good gun. got a 302 and I'm not going to be selling it. keep the gas ports clean and you shouldn't have too many problems. spready
Thanks for all the positive views, seems I've chosen the right gun . Just out of interest , I've got a fair few boxes of 32g 5 hushpowers subs left from when i had my mossberg, do you think it will cycle them? i know the best thing to do is get out and try, was just wondering if anyone had any experience using something like that through a semi? vmaxphil
top gun 301 just keep to 28g cartridges as they don't like light loads unless the gas port has been modified my 303 was an instructors gun and has fired thousands of cartridges still works with no problems and little maintenance
spready
The loads I used most are 30g 6 clear pigeons , so fingers crossed shouldn't be a problem I hope
88b
I've tried a few 24g in mine but it doesn't like them, so I always use 28g lead now, pretty sure the 301 is not steel proofed. I know with the newer Beretta semis they tell you to run about two boxes of 32 g through them to assist running in.
