bunny_blaster
Afternoon all I've just got off the phone from the local councils food standards agency after a complaint was made by a neighbour of my grandmothers house where I keep one of my chest freezers. The neighbour had told them I was storing and selling pigeons from the property so they came out to investigate. My grandmother had told them to contact me which they did and I explained the situation with me freezing the pigeon and then selling them to a game dealer who picks them up. According to them I need to be registered with them as a food business. Has anyone else heard or had to do the same? Cheers Ben
wymberley
Is there any room for anyone anything else in the freezer? That could set a very nasty precedent. I've never heard the like.
Big Mat
Tell them to go swivel, you are not operating a business, merely selling off excess from your hobby. If i bought 1000 firing pins and only needed 10 but sold the rest on ebay out of my garage, would that be business, no!
bostonmick
Good old council.they have a rule for everything and i will wager they have a charge to attach to the property as well in such circumstances.
Beardo
Print this out and post a copy to the neighbour http://multimedia.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/wildgameguide0611.pdf unfortunately you may have come a little unstuck depending on what you specifically said the FSA - see the flow chart on page
bostonmick
If you are putting anything into the food chain then you come under a whole different set of rules.you might have been better off telling them they were for your ferrets. CharlieT
Someone who operates a game larder with chiller/freezer and supplies game in feather to an approved game handling establishment needs to be registered with their Local Authority as a food business and comply with the relevant legislation. Carcases collected by an AGHE must have undergone examination by a trained hunter. I am no expert on all this, but as I am what is called a producer, I am a "trained hunter" so that I can supply to my game dealer. I would suggest you read..............http://multimedia.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/wildgameguide0611.pdf and recommend you seek advice from BASC

shootnfish
If he's selling them to the game dealer i thought it was ok because surely its the game dealer that's putting them into the food chain. Just sounds like another way of screwing money out of people.
Beardo
i think most of us were under that impression - but according to those guidelines that's not the case!?

Scully
Are pigeon classed as game, or does that make no difference? We sell rabbits and deer to our game dealer and they are simply stored in the freezer just like your pigeons.

CharlieT
As Mick has said, it makes no difference. Supply anything in fur or feather to a game dealer and it all comes under the same legislation.
