well im currently needing a new lamp and feeling an online purchase coming along

What am i better off with? a lighforce 170/140? or one of the nightmaster/scope fixed torches? bearing in mind this would be my only lamp. Im half tempted to go for something scope fixed so I can go out myself. And if the nightmaster is recommended would you suggest a filter an what colour?

Many thanks!

Cheers! Is the night master just one big LED? And you need spares? My brain has gone to mush

Stating the obvious but if it's scope mounted...do you move the rifle about from the car,(obviously unloaded). Or are you searching with a hand held lamp then moving to the scope mounted once you see something?

Thanks!

Out in the field on foot with it fella, fixed ontop of the scope,Red led is amazing. But I mainly shoot with NV now using the NM800 with the IR led (when I shoot with NV I dont use any lights at all,I scan the field using the NM800 IR turn it off pace out towards quarry, set out sticks get in position and fire up NV &NM800 and shoot).Still use the Lightforce when in the 4x4 for spotting and then fire up the NV.Have a look on Taclite web site.

You can actually fit a weaver type fitment to the scope fully adjustable for around £35,and a rail/scope mount to the lamp its then just a quick fix and a couple of turns of a screw to secure, if thats takes more than 5 seconds then you need to take your mittens off

I think if you look at the cost and the benefits against the alteranative's:- Cluson, Light force and similar scope mounted lamps with addition battery packs and lengths of cable wrapping around your scope and bi pods, the new "led" lamps are worth having. :good:

I have a 170 scope mounted lamp that i no longer use it also has a dimmer switch on line..

You can scan the fields with it when you see your target switch of and i just slides on to the scope mount in a couple of seconds light up and shoot

used this for a long time...

But it never gets used now i don't walk any more so use the 170 on my motor or just the NV ..

If you are interested drop me a PM and we can work out a price it will be a lot cheaper than a new one or a NM800...

  • 1 month later...

I got the turbo kit purly due to doing all night sessions, and the fact that I carry no other lights other than the NM800 with the IR so I am using it for scanning and shooting.

I love using this lamp and have never bothered looking at on reading any reviews on any new lamps due to total satisfaction.

It depends on a couple of things really, budget and choice. I went for choice and have Red,Green,Yellow and IR dont ask me which is better that the other colour wise i could not give an honest answer.

Ive taken Fox out to around 200yards with Green and Yellow, red around 150yards . Rabbits to over 200yards with Yellow and Green allot less with red.

I have a xsearcher, and have just fitted the red demon led, it works very well, the only fault for is the red demon has 2 brightness setting, which I cant get to set, id sooner have it fixed on the higher beam.

As a hand held or scope mounted torch its a great buy, light weight and the batteries last me most the night.

I have a 140 lightforce and some other lamps and a NM800 with white red and IR LED's if I could only keep one it would be the NM.

I have a Deben I think plastic mount that's meant to clip on the scope and take the weaver mount on the lamp. but I have a weaver mount on the scope so the plastic mount takes the torch. so you can search then clip the torch onto the scope if that makes sense.

to change colour you unscrew the lens then with the tool or circlip pliers unscrew the led and screw in the colour of choice.

The IR works well with the ad on type of night vision ( mines home made)

I bought the IR in an additional neck, pricey but worth it.

I found that if the led wasn't screwed in far enough you couldn't put it in single (brightest) mode by twisting the body as per instructions. I did work out how the three mode single mode bit works. if you have the led and look at the back the three mode ones have a pin in the middle of the spring, when you screw the body in the spring touches the middle "pin" and its in single mode unscrew it a bit it doesn't touch and you get three mode.

My red led is single mode and doesn't have the "pin"
