Worzel-gummidge
For the past week I have been working down at St Leonards on sea. leaving from north Kent in the morning my journey takes me down through the centre of Kent and into Sussex which is all country lanes almost. I always keep an eye out for pigeon activity and passed several hundred rape fields on route but no signs of pigeons, not one. The only pigeon activity I did see was those on normal grass fields, in the morning and driving back in the afternoon. Am I right in assuming the pigeons are more partial to clover or whatever is growing in the grass than the rape? Worzel

Blackpowder
Breasted out 24 Saturday past all had seed barley or beans and odd pieces of green, loked like rapeseed flowers prior to opening. Blackpowder
JDog
I noticed quite a few on clover today and some have started on buds. Late drilling on the heavier land will produce a few more until the 'dog days' when the blinking things sit in the tree tops and gorge themselves almost exclusively on buds and shoots. Archie Coats used to go on extended fishing holidays at this time, and PC dusts off his thong and goes to Greece for an all-over tan. Bleeh
Went for a cycle today, and I was surprised to see large amounts on both flowering rape, and eating clover off grasslands. (and drillings, of course)

M ROBSON
In Fife there pretty much done with the rape now. Their on the transition period between diets, some on clover and some starting on new barley drillings. Another week or so and they'll be total switched on to drillings I expect.
