OK. I'm going to be treating myself to a pump gun again but section 1 this time (if my fac ever gets here) and I think ive narrowed it down to the SXP or the Super Nova. I'm not bothered about tacticool accessories but will be wanting to use it for PSG so a big mag tube extension will be needed and it needs to be easy to load quickly.

has anyone experienced both to give a comparison? they both come up OK so fit shouldn't be a problem with either although I was concerned that the LOP on the SXP was going to be short.

Post in pump club, you should get loads of advice.

Out of the two I would go with the Supernova the SXP is made by Hatsan.

Figgy

I didn't know the SXP was made by Hatsan. I did know it was made in Turkey tho, this didn't put me off as I am happy with my Turkish Armsan.

Its not made by hatsan mate, however it is made in turkey buy a company called Shilah over looked by wincester. The SXP is not a Turkish designed gun with an American brand. Its a gun made to Winchesters specifications in Turkey.Just like an Ipad built in Hong Kong or a nissan built in Sunderland.

A brilliant shotgun. The only down side is the standard browning chokes.

Benellis are *very* popular with PSGers. Bare in mind that PSG is very hard on a gun - any little weakness will be revealed.

Mark.

P.S. One of my "gun-buddies" is about to ditch his 1187 - after a long struggle with reliability issues - and replace it with a Super Nova instead...

  • 4 months later...

Ive had several pumps, a cbc 586 (basically a brazillian made 870), a hatsan, a sxp, a std novaand recently got a bps.

I sold my hatsan to make space for the bps.

The sxp is fantastic to use, and I have the 3.5" waterfowl. The winchester has alot more moving parts and alot more complex in action. The hatsan was outstanding, very basic tried and tested reliable mechanism with fewer moving parts to go wrong. Never had a fault or issues with it. The benelli was a lesson in brand envy, got it cheap, luckily, hated it and was dissapointed with build quality, still never had a fault, just wasn't worth the money for all the hype. It's found a new home. The bps is awesome, solid steel and wood and a browning.... I am biased to browning and FN.

The SXP is a camo version bought purely for wildfowling on Saltmarsh.

In all honesty, were it down to a simple do it all one gun only on a desert island, out of the above I'd have the hatsan, just so little to go wrong in such a simple design, like the AK47, less is more. Better be clear, its just my opinion, before I get blown outa the sky by the hatstand rubbishers. Tin hat on!

I picked up an SXP after shooting a mates. I only bought it for a bit of fun on coaching days but having taken it out on the pigeons a couple of times, it's my new favourite hide gun. For the money you really can't go wrong.

Yes it's made in Turkey, but as has been said it is under license from Winchester to their specs so if it wasn't up to scratch it would come back on them.

My 2 pence worth, I have a hatsan field hunter pump and absolutely love it and doesn't rattle as much as a super nove as that was my other option when I was in the shop. So paid £250 less for the hatsan and the pigeons aren't complaining ☺ but if they are your only to options I would go with yhe super nove.
