Pigeon location?????

There are some quite large groups gathering in my area.

Although there are some still on the ivy berries, there are quite a few on the rape.

Out for a reconnaissance today (no wind, bright sunshine <_< ) and walking the hound, I saw a very large flock on some rape and surrounding trees.

Although it wasn't on my permission, I put the dog on the lead, walked up the farm track and put them up.

There must have been over 500 birds in the flock.

I walked straight back to my truck, watched the field for about 30 minutes and not one bird came back.

That could be the next problem, they start feeding on the rape and on still days they will move right off if disturbed.

I have seen alot of pigeons on rape in my patch in the last week. Will be having a go tomorrow , now the game season is over i have more land to have a go at. A mate shot some roosting last night and most of their crops were packed with rape , so i'm quite hopeful about tomorrow.

past a field of rape yesterday near a motorway hundreds of birds were piling in going to try trace farm tomorrow .loads of birds around my permissions. all birds ive shot full of rape .

Today I shoot over Rape Nr Luton. Total bag 19 . Very slow but bird did want to come in . Some in ones and twos, some large flocks in and gone of ever after the first shot. I openned many a crop to see what they had eaten and found them mainley empty. Dose this show they are runing out of berrys and other foods?

No it just means they aren't hungry enough to have fed. Unlike years ago it's a rare day to find Woody with a stuffed full crop, there's so much food around (wild and crops) that they can please themselves when they eat. That's one reason there's so many of the boogers and the population is growing. Check them out after a roost shoot especially on a stormy night and you might find them stuffed full.

I have only been seeing the odd one or two but just come back from lunch in the town and there is a flock of at least 500 of them circling and landing in a field. Now trying to find out who's farm and ask the obvious question....

they have just started to appear where we are not big numbers, me and lanber give it a try the other day.

score 1 all :good: at the moment there dropping down for a quick peck then back to the tree, there not coying yet

on the way home from work counted about 80 birds in one street, on the houses and tree lined Av's

starting to think the little tinks are moving more to the built up areas where its warmer
