big bad lindz
As the topic says, are Makita chain saws any good? My old Jonsered has given up the ghost and rather than spend time & money on repairing it I am looking at a replacement. The dealer that I bought my Jonsered from now only deals with Makita and may offer me a few pounds trade in against a new Makita. I only use the saw for slicing logs for firewood. I am also looking at Sthil & Huski`s. Any advice, cheers.
Scully
We have a Makita and a Stihl. I'm not bothered which I use whenever we're in the wood; both good saws.
LondonLuke
Still no sign of the chainsaw sub forum....
figgy
The Army uses Makita and they get good reveiws, only spares can be problematic if your local suppliers don't stock them. Makita bought out Dolmar whe made great saws. Figgy

Paddy Galore!
I have an electric Makita saw, it's not bad at all for small stuff, I've read good things about the petrol engine saws too, I nearly bought one when I was casting around for another small saw but opted for a deal on an ms181 instead. WGD
What size saw are you after?
big bad lindz
What size saw are you after? My Jonsered is a 18" bar but I may go for a smaller one. I will be going into the shop tomorrow to have a chat about a trade in or if they think mine can be repaired / serviced. As I mentioned I don't want to spend time myself on repairs as I don't have the tools to strip the engine down and I am not sure if the money would be better spent on a new saw. bindi
I have 2 husq chainsaws one 14" and one 20" for use around the farm, used most weeks over the last 7 years and both great but I don't think as good as the stihl magnums. My next saw will be Stihl. All my power tools (apart from my dewalt compound saw) are Makita and all good, particular my 18v lith ion rechargeables. I didn't know makita made petrol chainsaws but wouldn't buy one at home in Aussie as the market is dominated (and supported) by Husq and Stihl. So I think if you stick to orange you'll be fine either way and always be able to get spare parts for decades to come.
WGD
Personally I would buy a Husq or Stihl with an engine that does what you need, not a bar length.
