A few Corvids

My good mate Mark (the poacher) sent me a PM this morning asking if I was off work today. I phoned him as I was off work and we arranged to meet up at a local farm to see if we could get some Crows/Jackdaws, as Mark had seen loads up there during the past few days.

We went up to one of the top fields, and set up our gear, which was 20 decoys approx. No sooner had we sat down, a Jackdaw came into the pattern and I shot it. Shortly after, Mark shot another one, so we now had two to go on the rota. Shooting was pretty good for the first two hours, with Jackdaws coming in to range, in ones and twos. We shot quite a few, then things went quiet.

We sat in the hide enjoying the sun, (when it finally came out), and a large Crow came gliding down the field, into the decoys and dead birds. I did'nt see it, until Mark got his gun ready. He shot it square on and we were both pleased with it.

After about 4 hours, we called it a day, and had a total of 26 birds, which consisted of 25 Jackdaws and the 1 Crow. That's a good bag in our area, as we have to work hard to call them in etc. All the fields have sheep in them, with nothing ploughed. We have to rely on the birds seeing the decoys, using the Primos caller and a 'bit of luck'.

The photo's show our decoys/dead birds, our hide, the Crow(look at the size of it's beak!)and the final tally.

My thanks to Mark for a good few hours out with plenty of laughs along the way.

Good shooting there and net looks good what sort is it

The net is made by Camoreal. It's about the best net I have ever used. It seems to blend in with any background. Mine is a bit tattered now, but I plan to buy a new net soon.
