Jimbo999123
Hi guys Wondering if anyone can help just got myself a 2005 1.6l petrol astra on tuesday today whilst driving engine management light has come on. I looked online and found you can do a "pedal test" which gives you error codes as to what is wrong I have now done this and got 1116 and 2103 errors any vauxhall mechanics on here have any idea what these mean and likely cost to resolve? I have also posted this on an astra forum and had no response as yet.

Jimbo999123
Wow cheers for the fast responses guys. Can always rely on pigeon watch in times of need. Gordon any ideas what it would cost to get this sorted. I presume the 1116 would just be a new sensor? Which doesn't sound too expensive? But I have no idea what a CAN-Bus node is? Really need to try and get this sorted as quickly and cheaply as possiblw couldnt of come at a worse time to be honest getting married in 2 weeks and my fiancé's father has just passed away so cash is very tight at the moment
Sha Bu Le
My lad had a 1.4 Astra he was getting all sorts of problems, erratic running etc, when he did a fault diagnosis he got error codes also, can't remember what they were now. He had all sorts done to it which only fixed the running problems temporarily. Thing was it would run for a month problem free, then headaches. Finally solved the problem when it was running ok........traded it in for a Focus 1.6 Could not even change the brake pads on it, some sort of weird star shaped bolts. Designed to make Vauxhall garages money I suspect.

Lord Geordie
Stupid electronics, didnt used to get all those problems with MK1 Cortinas. Don't laugh! it's spot on! I never had much trouble with the old points, condensor and rotorarm layoit with mechanical pumps! Having said that! I had a load of vauxhalls in the past with no big issues! a few silly things but nothing major.
Westward
Some garages will charge you £45 just to plug in their fancy pants diagnostic machine and identify the error code, so first off get one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U480-Universal-OBD2-CAN-BUS-Fault-Code-Reader-Scanner-diagnostic-scan-tool-UK-/321360042220?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4ad28d18ec or similar. This will tell you the codes, which you can look up on Google, and also let you reset them so that the engine runs normally - at least until it picks up the error next time. Every popular make and model has at least 1 model specific forum full of anoraks where any problems or queries can be answered or clarified. Someone, somewhere will have experienced exactly your problem and will have posted full details of how to deal with it.
Cannon
The P1116 code will be a Vauxhall specific code referring to the Engine Coolant Temperature range/performance. Normally brought on by a faulty coolant temperature sensor, but not always. The U2103 is a network error, and as has been mentioned above it's possibly a CAN BUS Node (communication device integrated into the vehicles circuitry). This can be a bit more of a pita to sort out.
