vole
Admit I have been influenced by others on the net but I have taken to having a bite and a brew courtesy of my trangia stove . May progress to cooking on open fire when I get a bunny and time permitting . Saves me stopping off for grub and good fun. Hardly survivalist stuff but a nice pastime . cpaulc
I'm always out in the field or on the hill for full days with work (not shooting) and have me one of these JETBOIL stoves http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/jetboil . boil up some water in a super speedy time, put some into a pour n store prefilled with couscous and bits, then you can use the rest for a brew, and NO washing up! Best bit of kit I've bought in years. (Not as nice as an open fire though)

rimfire4969
When i was growing up in Bucks a great friend of mine and I used to shoot a big wood in the Chiltern hills we always had a open fire and cooked up some pigeon, squirrel, rabbit, pheasant or partridge in fact we tried just about everything we shot at one time or another. We just got some sharpened green sticks put the meat on and cooked over the flames. It also warmed us up on some very proper cold days. Brings back memories, my grandad worked as a forestry ranger many years ago and used to take me out and teach me how to shoot ,prepare the animal and cook it on an open fire Good times
Mentalmac
This is what you need vole. corrr blimey, talk about a posh set up there! I use a coke can stove and carry a small bottle (An empty hand sanitiser bottle) with meths in and a lighter. That's enough for a can of beens on top or a metal cup of water to get hot :-). vole
Nice set up Davyo that rivals my kitchen . My limit is hot chocolate sachets and biccies or soup . I use tent pegs to hold the pot and apart from the water bottle the whole thing fits in a side pocket of my bag . I used to pack up when I started thinking about the superb buttie van near by but stay out longer now . Impressed with little trangia but the Jetboil looks the dogs . Davyo
On the rear door of the 4x4 i have a fold down table for preparing food.I have used an open fire before when i've been out but this is a perfect set up for when we are driving the stubbles. We can basically pull up anywhere and cook a meal or even just have a pot noodle and a cupa. After harvest we are normally out with the NV till about 3/4am so food on the go is a must. Bobba
This topic reminds me of when I was a teenager I would go fishing on a misty Sunday morning with my dad and his mate who was a butcher. After a while the butcher would set up his primus stove and start frying bacon and black pudding. The smell of fried bacon would waft through the morning mist to anglers we couldn't see. Soon we heared the envious calls of hungry anglers. They seemed to be saying something like "cooking *******"
