aris
Loads of people swear by it. You can buy some ready made here: http://www.####.co.uk/red-kite-gunsmiths-gun-bore-cleaner---eds-red-receipe-2873-p.asp It is just a mix of readily available (at least in the US) ingredients. Also where do you buy Acetone in the UK, car paint shop ? ATB Matt

Funny thing is, the hardest part I can think to get hold of is the paraffin, can't for the life of me think of anywhere round near me that would sell it. Big Al
Is kerosene (heating oil) not paraffin? If not, garden centres will keep it for greenhouse heaters. My local garage also sells paraffin extra and pink paraffin in 5l containers. Edited May 21, 2014 by Big Al

Paraffin and white spirit - B&Q, garden centres. ATF any auto factors It won't affect the bluing but avoid any plastic bits. Great stuff for plastic fouling. Acetone is easy as there's a couple of beauty supply places locally. Is there a specific type of ATF that anyone recommends, or is it just a case of buying what's cheap? Oxfordshooter
I made a big batch of this stuff a few weeks ago and I'm really impressed. It definitely speeds up the amount of time it takes to clean the barrels of my shotguns. I don't know if this cleaner is actually any better/stronger than regular bore cleaner but it's just so cheap that you can use plenty of it and not worry about how much it's costing, or that you've got to buy some more. After using the Ed's Red I finish off with a light coating of gun oil, although the formula does contain a light oil in the form of the Auto Transmission Fluid. If anybody is interested, you can buy Acetone from Boots the chemist from behind the pharmacy counter. I'll never buy regular bore cleaner again! figgy
Just be aware the the acetone will evaporate over time, it'll be the first one to go from the mix so if you find after many uses the product left isn't working as well as it did add a bit more acetone. You could use nail varnish remover as the main ingredient is acetone. Figgy
Ted Kelly
I've never used anything else, with one variation. I find ATF far too oily so for me it's equal parts other 3 with just a dash of red. I keep mine in a glass flagon. Anyone know of a suitable plastic apart from HDPE, which is far from perfect??
