Nice , a very good eel that .

I have been lucky enough to get my mug in bothe the angling times and the anglers mail on a number of occasions.

I won a monthly drennan cup in the times and richworth one in the mail, I also did a couple of features for the angling times .

Not sent a picture in for years now though.

That's some snig that you friend had.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

Population has crashed by 90% in the last 10-15 years. At that size it is well over 60 years old.

They are delicious battered and fried . I would have eaten it .

Harnser

A fish of more than one lifetime.

Then I am both impressed and impressed.

A lifetimes fish.

Me too.

Two Drennan's, a couple of Shimano's before the Drennan's involvement with the AT and I think a Shimano in the Mail .

I presume it's a fresh water river eel?

Would it really be 60 years old!!? :o

I remember night fishing for eels with my mates as a kid some, (Cough) 30+ years ago in our local river Avon. We used to take a couple of the 2-3lb (ish) ones home to eat.

Cover them in salt, nail their heads to the garden shed door, cut through the skin just below the head and skin them like a glove coming off. (My mum was well impressed!)...

A quick gutting, cut them into inch long segments, then roll them in mixed herb flour and lightly fry them. They tasted great! If a little "muddy"!

Very few left in our stretch of the Avon now, the same for the Pike and Zander. Both "tackle shops" believe it's due to the "Eastern Europeans catching and eating them regardless of quantity and size"......

Considering some of them have "allegedly" been seen running off with some of the town's Swans, it's no surprise!.... :/

A nice looking photo but a better looking ell, I used to catch a lot of ells in salt water and if any one caught one 3lb or over that was a big fish round our way, if we had caught something that big his or hers 60yrs lifespan would have ceased and it would have ended feeding a nice lot of holiday makers on the market eating jellied ells
