Mod cleaning and damanged .22lr round disposal?

Hi all

Took my semi auto and my bolt action .22s out today for a plink. Good fun, but as a result, I've got a small handful of unfired but distorted .22lrs to dispose of - how can I do this? A couple have the bullet knocked out of alignment with the case so won't chamber, but a couple got properly caught in the semi and have crush marks in the brass. I assume I can't just chuck them in the bin?

Secondly, I have a mod on each gun - one Parker Hale that unscrews, and one Sak that doesn't. I managed to get the end cap off the PH and it's a bit grim inside, but I couldn't get the baffles out, and I can't unscrew the Sak, as it doesn't! Can I just soak the complete mods in white spirit / petrol / other in order to shift the crud, or would that leave moisture in them that would be hard to get out? Is there a better way to clean without dismantling? I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner or anything.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I clean mine because they do get gunked up

For some reason cant upload a pic

But mine says

Accumulated deposits in rimfire and air rifle silencers contains heavy metal and other toxic substances so for this reason and because cleaning is neither necessary or beneficial we recommend not to disassemble

With the deformed rounds, I'd say remove the bullet, tip the powder out and then hit the casing with a hammer to detonate it (wear earplugs!). The powder can be burnt too if you like but there's so little it's hardly worth worrying about

Don't know why the bits won't come out of the PH mod - try soaking it in something & giving it a good knock on a piece of wood

the crud on the baffles in the .22lr mods is rock hard and i ran mine through an US cleaner for about an hour

barely made a dent in it on the whole

best way is to clean from the beginning and keep cleaning or don't start!

always remove from muzzle though
