turbo33
I've been suffering with Eccles syndrome for the last couple of weeks, horrible back pain. Probably to much lying in the grass................NO ya filthy beggars, sniping rabbits Nothing to do with shoeing horses I'm sure So I thought today is a lightweight shotgun day. Time to give the little Yilditz 410 an airing,, and have a wander round. I found a few on some spring rape. Looks more like a field of radishes, just hasn't taken or grown This is a tricky field to shoot. Its around 700 yards long and nearly 300 yards wide, with country cottage at each end. Plus, to add to the problem, its convex in the middle, oh and did I mention the footpath So, guess where the pigeons were, yup 70 yards from one house and the same at the other end So, as both the cottage owners have bought nice leetle hises in the country, neither like the idea of shotguns going off. The only thing for it was to set up along a hedge, smack between the two, next to the footpath. My logic was, a) I would be able to see the people on the footpath b) the gunshots should put the birds up from both ends and c) I had a 350 yard head start on irritating/ bad tempered townies I took minimal gear because of the back and also being lazy By 11am, I had set up on the hedge line with 6 shell deeks. I fished around in the bag and pulled out a box of Lyavale 16grn 6's. First to or three birds flew by with their fingers up as I missed them comprehensively Confidence immediately at zero with the shells of course, couldn't possibly be my shooting that was at fault So more fishing, and found the box of Eley Subs 18grn. Obviously the extra 3 pellets made the difference Shot 4 on the trot, so all the deeks in leaving out the real birds At 2pm the other half phoned and said, "isn't it raining with you" No, its lovely, bit cloudy........woah!! As I stood up, the sky had turned black!! Got to go!!, Quickly dismantled the hide, gun, kit, dead birds all over the style in quick time, and just made it into the truck when the mother of all rainstorms hit So ended up with 13 birds. Quite happy with that considering the restrictive nature of the shooting. You have to love the 410 Edited June 14, 2014 by turbo33

turbo33
Thanks for the replies chaps. The gun is nothing special, just a Turkish Yilditz n/e m/c. But its a cracking gun to use. I keep it on 1/2 and 3/4 choke. Seems to wok for me. But I do have to concentrate more on the decoy pattern to bring the birds in a bit closer
