Ferret Master
Hi, I intended to get a pigeon for tea this morning and set myself up armed with Dad's AYA Yeoman SBS 12 bore on the edge of some woods where I saw a few pigeons flitting about earlier. After half an hour the only birds I saw were a small flock flitting about far into the woods in the ivy. So I decided to go for a walk. I had just come upon a new rabbit bury and was considering ferreting it some time soon when I saw a flock of 7-8 birds coming through the woods. I closed the gun and took the nearest pigeon to me which came crashing down to the ground in a flurry of feathers. I went to the edge of the woods with Dad and I began plucking the bird. At this point I realised that hitting a bird at reasonably close range with 32g of 5's through 1/2 choke does put a bit of lead in the bird. We then heard the familiar welcome sound of hound music and the huntsman's horn. Then the terrierboys owlboys roared down the lane on the quads. B) By this point Dad was chatting to a neighbour and he offered to take over plucking while me and another lad went down the lane to see what was happening. This photo was taken just after I shot it: It's not exactly much compared to some of the bags on here but I was pleased because I generally struggle to hit much with the Yeoman. Dad's ever encouraging view on the matter was: 'Why didn't you shoot another afterwards?' FM

Ferret Master
Thanks for the replies. I have shot them with my airguns before but this was the first that I managed to connect with using this particular gun. I usually use my Beretta 20 bore. I just used the SBS today as I was in thick brambles and I don't mind it getting a bit more scratched or dirty. The Beretta was in the car on standby if I set up in a more open place. Ferret Master
Locked in a boot on private land in a driveway with 2 other cars yes. By the way I was going to have the pigeon for tea tomorrow but I have to make a stir fry for my cookery lesson at school on Tuesday so the breasts are now in the freezer. I will be calling it mystery meat. Pheasant and sweetcorn pie was a big sucess last year at school. FM
Markio
Nice one, hope it tastes good! P.S. Next time you take a picture of yourself after a 'first' make sure you aren't holding a celebratory joint at the time. It looks like a large one and i hope you shared it about. flash
nice one ollie, just goes to show there is no difference between a 20 and a 12, or a sbs, or o/u. although realisticly we know o/u 12 bores are the best

Ferret Master
The lads on the quad had an eagle owl to sort out ginger and a terrier for legal use below ground to protect gamebirds. Yes you can shoot pigeons with an air rifle but aim for headshots and only sitting birds, this is why people mainly use shotguns as they can be shot flying. I took the first pigeon into school today to make a rissoto. The pigeon went down very well other than one rather rude boy projectile spitting it across the classroom when I said what was in it. Rather like a Little Britain scetch. 10+ people really liked it though. I now have orders for a few pigeon from various people. FM
