srspower
I went out pigeon decoying Saturday, had a good day and got 15 despite having the police called on me!
Hatcher
A very well edited and composed video there mate, you can see the time and effort you've put into it. I like the fact that you included the 'post shooting' part of decoying, purely because it helps show the anti's that the shot pigeons aren't just being slung in the bin. Cracker of a video and I hope to see some more soon. ATB Hatcher
spinach
Have you been mixing cement on the top of your freezer? Glad to see your food handling skills are not being ignored!!! Only joking thanks for the clip great to see small bags being used and enjoyed , that's what's it all about for me. John.

But I guess at least other onlookers can see it is very ethical and important. Glad you liked it Have you been mixing cement on the top of your freezer? That's my Dads woodshed/meat smoking shed/hanging game shed. The smoker came in handy actually, my Dad hadn't got it lit but the smell puts off flies and wasps so it is a good place to hang the other ten pigeons. Thanks for watching well done lads good video, enjoyed the slow motion clips..good stuff The cooked pigeon looked gorg..nice one Yeah there were a couple of squabs amongst them, tasted amazing. Glad you enjoyed the slow mo, whilst shooting I thought the tripod cam wasn't going to get much but it turned out pretty well nice video there mate , enjoyed that , I glad you carried on shooting after you dealt with police , good on you . a lot of people would have just packed up . stevo To be fair when the Police turned up I wasn't going to stay much longer anyway as the birds weren't coming in much. But I made sure I stayed for a good half hour or so after I finished speaking with the Police just to prove a point to whoever phoned them. Thanks for watching Edited July 29, 2014 by srspower

OJW
Good vid, its nice to see someone in a real situation dealing with the police so calmly and effectively. I always get worried someone might call them, but after watching that I guess if they did it wouldn't be so bad after all.

lloydi73
Is that the normal way to cut the breast off a pigeon?? Looks easy enough, think I'll give that a go, rather than rely on others......
Mentalmac
Is that the normal way to cut the breast off a pigeon?? Looks easy enough, think I'll give that a go, rather than rely on others...... Yes, However I use a thing bladed fish filleting knife, can bend the flexible blade slightly to get maximum meat for your money that way. That's a good way of getting started (I mentioned this in your last topic in 'talk from the field'). Pulling the crown off is a little more involved (Snapping off wings at their joints and sticking you thumb up inside and wiggling all the organs off) - so possibly best to cut breasts off to start and then when you develop a real taste for the stuff and want to get the most meat off, you can start the other way. Depends on what you want to cook. Sometimes If I'm bored and have a particularly good pigeon or one I shoot with an air gun to the head, then I'll pluck and gut and oven roast with the skin on, hard work as the skins quite delicate. Or I breast it. A few pics below for you:
srspower
That roasted pigeon looks amazing mentalmac! I usually opt for what's quickest/easiest and let the ferrets have the rest. But I must say my mouths watering :-)

But I must say my mouths watering :-) Thanks, It was damn good and worth the effort, wouldn't do it to a whole bunch though, would be there all day! especially good for air gunned ones as they are more 'structurally sound' haha. Nice video by the way, always enjoy your vids. wow, that looks amasing mate, wish you lived closer for a demonstration or two....Yes, I remember you telling me about the "wing method" and I saw a guy on another video doing it, wasn't Archie Coates, but somebody else as equally well known...think I'll start the easy way first and work my way into the other method!! Thanks Lloyd, :-). Next time I'm on the road and you have a bunch of pigeons I'd happily pop in and help out. The wing method is great once you know it, perhaps after being shown it by someone as you need to assert a good amount of pressure in certain places or you end up with an inside out pigeon and you'll freak out some. I've a modified way of that method now where I don't need to snap the wings (Sometimes pulls at the breast meat and ruins a bit of it) I actually just dislocate the joint, feel the gap with my fingers and cut with a knife, leaves more useful meat - every bit counts on an animal this small I'd say! (Especially if you don't get 1000 per outing!).
