maskedhunter
this gun is alot like the x20 suppressor for looks.. accept the silencer.. and trigger is black and saftey is at trigger instead of back. not going to replace my x20 - but like the look of the exchangeable barrels!Regards,Matt! chrisjpainter
HW80, HW95, HW97. The 80 was and always will be a classic. The 95 is essentially the lighter, shorter version of the 80. Both break barrels. best underlever is, in my book the 97. I have heard say that the new HW's have reliability issues, so go second hand and they seem to last longer than the shooters! No shortage of choice on the second hand market and parts are readily available - not that you'll need them very often. chrisjpainter
Watched the vid. Not convinced by the accuracy to be honest - especially of the .177. I'd expect a tighter group than that as it's only 25m, albeit outside. 1" (2p piece) grouping at 25yds from a bench rest for the .22 seems a bit loose. Still amazed at how accurate this gun of mine is ( Over 20 years old ) even compared to my HW97kt stage two tuned rifle.

FalconFN
My advice would be to buy the best quality rifle that you can afford, and that generally means getting one secondhand. SMK are ok for what they are, but you get what you pay for and invariably you will end up trading your ok Chinese rifle for German or British engineering and get a Weihrauch or Air Arms which will be much superior and last a lifetime. Zetter
I would also nip in to see R+K Stockcraft in Stony Stratford mate they will give you a cracking service good selection in there and they wont sell you something that's unsuitable. Before you spend your cash though if you are going to MKARC on Sunday chat to as many people as possible. Most of them will let you try out their pride and joy you will get a feel for what you like and don't and prevent yourself making a costly mistake. Yeah that sounds awesome, would like to see what other enthusiasts have spent there hard earned pennys on, and see who got what they paid for and who got the show peices - the x20 is extremely accurate at 10 yards (30feet) but i havent shot it further yet - sunday will be fun - Me and my mate will be going there, where about in hanslope is it btw? Well one good thing about me is i see each gun as a work of art, i will be keeping my previous and the current x20 even if i find a better suited, i dont think i could dislike a gun, ive even got a gun (which is what re-ignited the fire for me) which is in taters old thing.. wood looks like someones custom varnished it .. badly. then drawn on it with a old 5th gen AGS Scope the adjustment wont alow it to be zero'd in but it hits same place and see,s to love any ammo unlike my picky stoeger, i baught it for a quick 40 pound from a mate who needed some money so i thought help a mate also now i have two so a little mate can have a pop, have a little pop on a air rifle, little did i know it would get me back into shooting etc, still not un happy i spent the 40, i think its done what ive paid for, had a little plink Regards, Matt. Ey up blood, your input into the forum has come a long way since your first post,( it came across a bit chavtastic) but credit where credit is due, my reply to you first post was a bit stereotypical and for that I apologise( yes I will eat humble pie ha ha) although it was tongue in cheek!! I agree with the above post ,you will not go wrong with a HW80 or 77 cracking springers and within your budget, Keep learning and keep the neighbours happy and above all stay with it and stick to the laws of our beloved sport, Good job old bean, we all had to start somewhere, Atb Flynny

silver pigeon69
I have had a HW80 for almost 30yrs and its still going strong, bit on the heavy side but a cracking rifle!
silver pigeon69
if you have £400 to spend, have you thought about a second hand PCP? you could pick up something like a Falcon FN9 or 12 with bottle etc for about £400. i recently got a FN9 and i can shoot through the same pellet hole at 25yds! i cant beleive how accurate they are compared to a springer. The HW80 looks nice, does it come in both .22 aswell as 177 ? I have had a HW80 for almost 30yrs and its still going strong, bit on the heavy side but a cracking rifle! +1 (could do with the extra exercize) if you have £400 to spend, have you thought about a second hand PCP? you could pick up something like a Falcon FN9 or 12 with bottle etc for about £400. i recently got a FN9 and i can shoot through the same pellet hole at 25yds! i cant beleive how accurate they are compared to a springer. if you have £400 to spend, have you thought about a second hand PCP? you could pick up something like a Falcon FN9 or 12 with bottle etc for about £400. i recently got a FN9 and i can shoot through the same pellet hole at 25yds! i cant beleive how accurate they are compared to a springer. Because i dont mind spending out on an initial gun but dont want more to buy like bottles.. pellets are enough i like to shoot as often as posible! also arent these more powerful then 12lbs? i dont own a FAC .. Just got into this all again. Its at Manor Farm in Hanslope mate post code MK19 7BQ Its at Manor Farm in Hanslope mate post code MK19 7BQ Ta Zetter.. helpfull and speedy as always! Regards, Matt. FalconFN
Pre charged rifles are generally no more powerful than spring guns and any rifle over the limit, pre charged or spring powered, are sold as FAC rifles. It might be worth thinking about a pcp and hand pump or bottle though, they are easier to shoot and very quiet.

onatangent
Nice for ft but when you want a clean kill off hand can be a pain depending on your rifle, fit, weight and if you have practised over and over. Then it gets windy and you have to learn something else. I enjoy my pcp shooting, get through lead like I have shares in the stuff. Ten shot side lever constant fun action and if on a permission a follow up shot is easy to find. Costs nothing to try them out shop allowing.Plenty to choose from, gas ram, spring, co2, pcp by most manufacturers. Varying performances relative to price with all carrying pros and cons. I like pcp, if I miss its my fault.....or a gust of wind of course lol. Edited September 12, 2014 by onatangent

So whats a good PCP since i have alot of good break barrel opinions now! Regards, Matt.
onatangent
Love my hatsan at44-10. Best value for money new rifle you can buy. Was going to get a bsa ultra se but opted for the hatsan. Shoots centres out of targets at 25yrds, 70 shots out of a fill, quiet as you could want out of the box. Loudest thing is the ping in the air cylinder but that's a couple of quid to deping it, that and a thud of a pigeon spooking his buddies.
