The Essex Hunter
With the rape starting to poke through, I have noticed a distinct lack of acorns on the oak trees. In previous seasons the bumper acorns crop helped the farmer as the pigeons were switched off the rape.... I have all ready ear marked a few particular fields which I am sure will receive attention.... So how are you Oak's ?? TEH
JDog
In some areas there are loads of acorns, and beech mast too. In other areas there is nothing.

pigeon controller
As JDog said we have some with a few small acorns and some with nothing . The squirrels have been on the beech masts in the garden for the past few days. The rape that has been sown is being left alone at present. PhillW
Yes the acorns are all deformed this year... apparently its all down to a wasp grub larvae. Very interesting heres a link- http://www.donsgarden.co.uk/pests/
Whitebridges
I've got a gret 'ol oak in the garden. It's got a few big fruit and that's it. Nothing close to what was on it last year.
Cranfield
The acorns seem patchy in this area, but some of the pigeons I shot last week had beechmast in their crops.
Fisheruk
Yes, plenty of pigeons on the beech mast here in the North West. Squirrels up there too.
Kes
No acorns on either of our oak trees - I see the jays foraging further afield, lot of beech mast but it seems smaller and has dropped early in reponse I think to dry conditions. Some pigeons around here feeding on clover but no big numbers.
